The Kushiel's Legacy trilogy takes place in an alternate version of medieval France known as Terre d'Ange, where everyone's descended from fallen angels and hence are extra hot. Written in the early 2000s, it tells the story of a heroic spy/courtesan named Phedre no Delaunay and her perfect companion, a former warrior monk named Joscelin Verreuil. There were two sequel trilogies as well, both taking place later in the same world, and the first book, Kushiel's Dart, even got a retelling from Joscelin's perspective rather than Phedre's. Anafiel Delaunay was basically Phedre's Obi-Wan, down to dying midway through the first book. A disghraced poet, courtier, and spymaster, he adopted Phedre into his household and taught her all her espionage skills, alongside her foster-brother Alcuin. Unfortunately, this ultimately ended up with Anafiel and Alcuin being assassinated by conspirators against the throne and Phedre and Joscelin being framed for their murder. And then, thanks to the magic of DWRP, he got scooped up by living tarot cards to be piece in their world-hopping game/ritual called Synodiporia and spent roughly 2-3 years getting his horizons really broadened.

| Notable Traits |
So the thing about being from Terre d'Ange is that everyone from there is beautiful in some way or another. It's all that angel blood in them. It gives them model-like symmetry. So yeah, Anafiel Delaunay is canonically hot stuff, even at 40+, with facial features described as austere and noble, though sometimes he's got a bit of a resting bitchface. He habitually wears his long russet red hair in a braid down his back. Thanks to Synodiporia, he's currently wearing somewhat more modern clothes than he wore in canon and he's also got a tarot-themed back tattoo now, which is extremely AWKWARD because in his culture back tattoos are a sex worker thing. |
| 15 Second Summary |
So sometimes it turns out that your protagonist's wise and noble mentor figure is actually a human trashfire underneath everything. Like an extremely intelligent and observant one, but also one with an observable history of depression and a propensity for making rash as fuck decisions that bite him in the ass. And that's BEFORE getting dragged into a world-hopping game/ritual post-death. |

Acquiring Skills was a big part of Synodiporia, and Delaunay has lot of them at this point. Enough so he'll be getting them back in groups rather than individually. |

Once he gets his basic psychic skills back, his mind is going to be off limits to probing psionicists, sorry. |
