Like, if they're trying to do the time travel bullshit to do stuff on their level of things, it might make sense to do it when we've got something less dramatic going on so we don't distract them. Like the inner Jaunt is not so important as the outer Jaunt?
Or maybe doing better on the inner Jaunt will help them do whatever they were trying to do in the outer Jaunt? Some of the things that Riddick and Yukino said on the Network the other day made it sound like the first time we did Mars didn't go so well, because we didn't have all the Traveler tricks we have now.
And, like, we don't know exactly when Fortuna died either--although the Interface data from the Expedition almost looked like she did it in stages? So if they want to go back to when everyone but Temperance was alive and well, they'd have to get to it pretty early. And from what Nabiki's said, this seems like it was a pretty early Jaunt? Maybe it's their best choice of the first couple. Like not the highest stakes... but the one that is easiest to turn a fail into a win.
