So, uh, just a note about those Illuminant trophies or whatever they're meant to be?

I did a perspective scan on them just in case they actually, you know, had them, and mostly they don't. They're symbols devoid of mind, and if I switch my sensory inputs around they just look like whatever emotions the original Illuminant represented.

You'll notice I said mostly, though. That's because Rose is still there, sleeping inside her flower. So whatever you end up doing in that room, you're probably gonna want to leave her out of it.

What do you do with an artifact that contains what's functionally an Ancient One?

You secure it, you contain it, you protect it. So that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands - not here defined as "malicious," but here defined as people who don't know that poking it makes a god come out. Or that taking and using it rewrites your notional character sheet.

This is basic Eldritch Defense. And even if the Skittles aren't technically in the same league as the Crawling Chaos, why NOT take those precautions?

I'm not arguing with you at all that putting it in plain sight of this motley crew is unideal at best, believe you me I know it's massive schmuck bait. I lived in a school full of teenagers who would touch the Shiny Basketball.

But seeing as these are charitably Keter-class and capable of causing CK-class Reality Restructuring they probably didn't have a choice of putting it in less than a liminal prison.

I think this is the main reason that they got locked in the proverbial 5 by 5 by 5 ERZATZ-standard cell, yeah. Liminal beings have a nasty habit of turning into even new, more exciting and worse ideas when you aren't looking.
