[Pre-Harrogate Liminal] Come enjoy nature!

I know that there are many who are disturbed by what we assume is the next Jaunt. There is little I can do to alleviate those fears. However, I can offer a small diversion.

My room in Liminal Space, accessible through my father's training hall, is more a forest and campsite than a room. I have made it to be night in its ceiling, and have set out some food and drink, including s'mores, so that you may have something happier to occupy your mind for a short while.

All are welcome-- [he chuckles lightly.] --and all I ask is for it to remain in one piece

[Drizzt only knows because he has a friend whose personal mission seems to be getting him up to speed with the 21st century.]

[It's a little jarring to be seeing video in your head, so he thought he'd ought to ask.

Suddenly, a pair of ebony-skinned hands are holding a plate with pieces of food on it, which Drizzt describes next:]

A friend of mine showed me how to make these. You heat the white marshmallow over the fire until it almost begins to burn, then squish it and a piece of chocolate between the halves of graham cracker. It is quite good. This one isn't made yet, but I believe it should be easy enough to imagine the end result.

It is many sweet tastes rolled into one, and yes, quite often messy. Marshmallow is similar to the taste of raw sugar but... different. It's hard to describe.

None taken! Many "American" things do not look good but taste fine enough, although often overly sweet or fatty.

I'm not familiar with "American" things, but I'll concede that looks and taste don't always match. Certainly not in England.

I only know about a number of them because friends of mine are horrible at shutting their mouths. And I believe the taste is more important than the look of things. Why eat something beautiful if it tastes disgusting?

A beautiful, terrible meal would certainly not be my first choice. We agree on that.

Indeed--what is the good of something that cannot be used?

Even more practical. I have a feeling we'd get along well if we were to meet in our home worlds. Too few people there share the sentiment.

Indeed, I believe we would. You would fit in well with my friends back home. You should come see the room I have made--I believe you will enjoy it.

[Since first setting foot in liminal space, Maria has mainly shared meals with Malik and Altair in their rooms, or attended the so-called 'feasts' that have occasionally been held. She hadn't intended to set out for something like this, but she supposes there's no harm in being sociable.]

[There's certainly no harm in it, and friendship is something that Drizzt prefers over all else.]

[Drizzt is sitting by the fire pit when Maria arrives, Guenhwyvar stretched near the heat of the fire. Indeed, Guenhwyvar is an enormous black panther of 600 pounds--more the size of the largest of male lions than any panther should be.

When he realizes they're not alone, the drow stands and turns to face Maria with a smile.]

Good evening!

[Because, indeed, Drizzt has made it evening in this "room".]

[Maria raises a hand in greeting, and smiles. This isn't exactly what she's used to from home, but it's closer than some of the futuristic places she's seen.]

Hello, I—oh my. Is that beast yours?

[Drizzt laughs as Guenhwyvar looks up at Maria curiously, tail flicking lightly. She's relaxed and not worried, feeling that Maria is a friend through her bond with Drizzt.]

Guenhwyvar belongs to herself, although I call myself blessed to be her friend. She is quite intelligent and will not harm you. It's a pleasure to meet you as myself, Maria.

[It's tame. Well, who'd have imagined.]

It's good that we can take some time to enjoy ourselves, isn't it? Between the bouts o ridiculousness.

[Oh, no, she's completely wild. Just sentient and a nice kitty.

Drizzt nods and rises to greet Maria, walking towards her.]

Indeed, it is good that there is time between each of these worlds. I'm quite pleased that this space can finally be shared with others.

[She offers a hand to shake in greeting, a modern custom she's come to adopt.]

And shaped to our liking. This space is very different from where I typically dwell.

[Drizzt has similarly adopted it, and has to smile, knowing that Maria likely picked it up from the others as well. He shakes her hand firmly, equally, not overpowering.]

I believe almost none of us are used to such a strange environment. Or the worlds we visit.

I suppose that's one thing we can all be guaranteed to have in common.

So. I believe you promised an unattractive but quality meal?

[naturaltwohands]

Indeed, I did! [Drizzt smiles, then gestures towards the lean to behind her.] Vegetable and venison stew, cooked over the hearth. I also have bread.

Oh, excellent.

[She moves towards it, nodding at the sight of food.]

[Drizzt moves into his little lean to and towards the hearth in the back, getting two rough-hewn bowls from a small shelf. He fills one first and balances a slice of bread on top of it before offering it to her. It's certain not pretty, but it smells good.]

I hope it is to your liking.

[Maria waits for him to serve himself as well before taking a taste. For a moment, she raises an eyebrow, and her reaction is uncertain...but then she smiles.]

Oh, this is good. This is very good.

[Drizzt keeps right on smiling.]

It was one of the first things I learned to cook on the surface. I am glad it meets your approval.

Oh? Where did you live, if not in the surface?

[naturaltwohands]

[Drizzt gestures for them to go back out towards the fire now that they both have their food. He shrugs almost innocently.]

Not on the surface.

[Ha. Ha.]

We call the tunnels and caverns underneath the surface the Underdark. It was there that I was born.

An appropriate name, I suppose.

[She moves toward the fire, bowl in hand.]

I was born in England, though I doubt the name means much to you. In the house of a minor lord. It was extremely dull.

Indeed.

[Drizzt smiles and sits down nearby, close enough to continue the conversation.]

I have! I read about England in a book--an encyclopedia on the world. It seems that England is similar to Faerûn, but more advanced in their technology in the times that many are from. But the castles and buildings of Europe seem more like the world I am from, although many are far grander. Although the Cathedrals do not compare to the Spirit Soaring, I am afraid!

[He really likes the Spirit Soaring. Cadderly is a good man, and it is a fine accomplishment.]

Oh? And what is that, a monument of some kind?

A cathedral of sorts--utterly magnificent, dedicated to Deneir, the Scribe of Oghma, a god of knowledge. A man by the name of Cadderly Bonaduce used his very lifeforce to create the structure. It is a goodly place full of hope--one that I plan on visiting again some day.
