Ah, hello, Randolph Lyall here. Sorry to bother everyone, but someone from my own, er, original home universe has just arrived... and I do believe she requires a bit of an introduction. Lady Alexia Maccon, wife to my former pack leader, Victorian-era aristocracy, and preternatural.

[Because he has sensory livestreaming, he's able to send with this a mental image of Alexia, so hey, maybe this will count for her as an introduction to everyone, for her sense of propriety? It's a thought!]

'Preternatural' means, if she touches you and you have supernatural abilities, it is entirely possible she will negate them. I don't know the extent of that ability with people not of our world, but in our world, shapeshifters, vampires, and ghosts are all affected, so a warning seems... well, prudent.

I am entirely positive she will not take offense if you wish not to take her hand, with this knowledge in mind.

[Lupa is interested, so very interested. True the implication is that it's touch only, but to be free of it all, even for a moment? Lupa wants to feel that, as himself.]

Do you think it might work on demons?

[A few seconds later.] Are there any known side-effects?

None at all. And as soon as she lets go of you, or you of her, it all comes back immediately. It's worth a try, if you want to give it a go.

I would... actually like to introduce you to her, anyhow. She needs to know more people here, in case we wind up on different Jaunts, or I am infiltrated and she is not. And people who are important to me I think ought to be among those she knows.

So only a temporary reprieve. Still, even a moment might be worth it.

I would enjoy meeting her. If she is a friend of yours, I am certain she is an honorable person. I will make an attempt to look out for her, if we are on a jaunt and I remain myself, as well.

[He wants to ask if they can meet right now, but refrains. Barely.]

I'll set something up in the next day or two, then, once she's settled and I've finished making up her wardrobe... and answering her plethora of questions.

I do appreciate your being willing to look out for her, though. It may not be necessary, but... well, I'll certainly feel better.

Did she arrive unclothed?

[Lupa still hasn't quite caught on to wanting to wear many different outfits, so that's the only reason that comes to mind.]

I am happy to help a friend, and I know you would do the same if one of my Tribe from the Junkyard arrived.

[There's a faint, echoey chuckle.]

No, she did not arrive unclothed. In the time and place she's from, people changed clothes... often. Many times a day, in fact. I'm not about to support that sort of lifestyle, but she absolutely will require multiple gowns in order to feel comfortable rotating them each day. Rather the same way my suits change color now and then. Most of us do have multiple sets of clothes, generally.

I can understand multiple sets of clothing, for when one is damaged or being cleaned, but surely they don't get soiled so quickly?

[Multiple sets in one day? It makes no sense!]

[Lyall considers a moment how best to explain, then settles on:]

The nobility of her time shows their wealth through their clothing. It became the custom to change for walking, visiting, going to dinner... that sort of thing. To show you could afford such a thing. Only the upper classes did it.

[Then he pauses.]

... have your Jaunt selves given you any understanding of class structure? The rich versus the poor and the middle class?

I think... The memories are not always clear, but I have some idea what you are referring to. I do not understand such things at all. Why is an excess of funds given such high value? The funds do nothing just sitting around unused. Better to share with comrades so everyone can benefit from purchases made with them.

[For Lupa, with the group is everything mindset shared by the Wolves, it really is unthinkable to hoard wealth. Or to display it so uselessly.]

The idea of changing clothes so often is... Strange.

Well, it's not a habit you need to adopt. I'm certainly not, and I'm not letting her, either.

[He pauses to put his thoughts in order on the subject of wealth, then tries to explain.]

Having lots of wealth, lots of money, means you could do something with it if you wanted to. You could pay to have someone locked up or discredited or even killed, you could buy a building or some goods out from under someone else, you could pay the newspapers and television companies to play whatever you wanted, within reason. Think of it as a magic power to make people do what you want, because they want to have that wealth, too, and if they do what you want, you might share it with them, in return for your help.

[Lupa does not like that description at all.]

That does not... seem honorable.

[He doesn't say anything else, thinking over what was said again to see if he missed or misinterpreted something.]

Most people didn't actually earn their money, they simply got it from their parents, so it isn't really something that is inherently honorable or not. It's in how you use it, if you have it. Some people do in fact use their wealth for good purposes, like to feed hungry people or to try and change unjust rules.

They are not usually the majority, however. Those who don't use their power for good, at least once they're told they can, aren't using it honorably, no. But simply possessing this power of money doesn't make one honorable or dishonorable.

[Knowing that some use this power in honorable ways is a relief. At first it had sounded like no one did.]

But I am… disappointed? that so few do use that power honorably. Unless I have misunderstood your implication?

No, you haven't misunderstood. Disappointed is a good word for it, and you aren't the only one. In Alexia's time, things were generally... not so good when it came to using wealth for more than fancy parties, fine clothing, and political power. Hence the changing clothes several times a day. I like to think we've gotten a bit better in my time, but we're certainly not where we should be.

It is good to know that things are improving. It means there is hope for the future.

[There is a little pause.]

But I suppose I should look into other clothing for myself. If my data doesn’t merge with another life, I don’t believe my armor will fit in very well in most places. Just… without my armor I feel naked, even if I am covered by something else. I am not certain naked is the right word.

It's appropriate enough. I have been known to say I feel naked without a cravat, and that's much less comprehensive than armor.

If you like, I can actually make clothing. Maybe together we can find something that you feel more comfortable in?
