Does anyone else have any background in biology or chemistry? I thought I might investigate this Stricken thing from a more scientific perspective, and I wouldn't mind some help. It's the only thing I can think of to do that might actually be useful. It might all be for naught, if it's an entirely magical sort of thing, but at least I can try.

And before anyone worries, I'm about ninety-nine percent certain I'm immune. The whole undead werewolf thing, you know. I don't really get sick, and I already have a particularly restricted diet and desire to eat things I shouldn't, so I doubt this will do anything to me.

Thorne, I don't suppose you could convince the local leaders here to let me near their afflicted? I'll wear a medical mask, and everything, but you've spoken with them already and I think it might go over well if I had a spokesperson, rather than going about asking for cheek swabs and blood draws willy-nilly.

I will totally do that, especially since I'm not sure I can help otherwise. I mean, one of my overlays was a minor alchemist in Nova Venezia and I've still got her recipe book--plus I've got a bunch of first aid certifications from the Red Cross back home--but this... it looks way beyond my experience.

Minako knows chemistry, though. Helena and Naoki too, but they're infiltrating.

That would be marvelous. I already need to make up some lab equipment and attempt to make it look... old-timey. Maybe if I add a few extra gears and metal bits?

Now, now. My first life came from something much like steampunk. We even had airships, zeppelin-shaped. Er, we called them dirigibles, as I recall.

Oh my god, really? Did you put a bunch of random gears on all your shit in that life?

It probably wasn't quite as ridiculous as the modern steampunk recreations of things, but there were some rather questionable fashion decisions even in regards to machinery. I distinctly recall attacking a giant octopus machine once.

Holy shit. Lyall, that's awesome. Did everyone's rogue machines come in animal shapes?

That's the only machine I actually remember, and its builder did, er, always have a flair for the dramatic. And for octopi in particular. She was driving it, at the time, so it wasn't precisely rogue. Or rather, she was, not the machine.

Wow. I hope I get to meet her someday, whoever she is. She sounds pretty rad.

Her name is Genevieve LeFoux, and you would probably like her. She actually did show up briefly in liminal space during one of the floods of new people, but she didn't even make it to a Jaunt, I'm afraid. She was much younger than what I remember of her, and she didn't recognize me.
