Well, the basic way to do it is just melting chocolate bars and re-shaping them. You could probably even do pre-made chocolates, too, if you're giving them to friends. Working from scratch is more a thing you do for your boyfriend in Japan. Actually, I don't know if they even do that anywhere else...
