Gathering those Plot Bunnies [very end of week two]

Alright, so - never thought I'd be sayin' this, but - thanks t'Zed, I think I got a workin' idea 'f what's been happenin' behind the scenes here.

'cos without him, Yakumo wouldn't a' gotten turned back into an Investigator. First thing he done did was find me an' tell me how the Titans're throwin' a coup a' the gods. He ain't got too much info yet - turns out storm spirits ain't got the greatest sense a' focus - but at least one a' them's a Traveller, that English wizard guy.

[you know, the other one]

An' Galen, Tachibana's overlay, said that when he went t'go talk t'em earlier--

[And a memory of Galen's voice, sullenly furious, speaks.]

"Something has bewitched the gods and dulled them to blindness. For the barest fleeting moment there was intelligence in Apollo's eye, but it dulled like embers in ice, leaving only disinterested arrogance in its wake."

[And then back to Kinji's own.]

--so they're doin' somethin' directly t'mess with the gods an' make 'em complacent in their own demise.

So here's where it gets tricky. Yakumo thinks he can get me an in with the Titans - the storm spirits seem t'have all taken a likin' t'me, and they're already in on whatever the hell this plan is with the Titans, so unless there's any volunteers, I'll be goin' an sneakin' into that.

An' that means somebody else oughta try goin' back up the mountain t'try an' talk some sense into the gods. An' I reckon y'all might be able t'do that with some kinda skill that can clear their minds. I know there's a Song fer that, I can pass that on if'n someone needs it, but there's gotta be other ways that work better. If teleportin' or climbin's too far, I can make some kites an' Yakumo an' the other storm spirits can fly people up the mountain. It ain't too safe but it's a right sight faster than teleportin' or climbin' on foot.

...so. Thoughts?

Are you all right?

If you hit a roadblock, I'm willing to take a look, see if I can figure anything out.

And I'm no expert on Greek mythology in general. If this were Japan I could give you a pretty good idea of what usually goes on.

There's, what, a couple dozen of us? Enough to make the odds of everyone infiltrating really, really low, anyway.

Especially if Izanami has anything to do with it.

Japanese mythology isn't one I studied with a particular focus, but I could probably pull out enough information on it.

I'm... kind of a walking occult library in some ways. It just kind of ended up as a thing, I don't know...

... I'll admit, I'm only starting to really fight in larger scale battles. It sounds like you have more experience with this. I'm willing to do what I can, but I have to... I know the Titans here are probably different than the ones I know. They might be, at least, and I don't want to go after someone who really isn't that bad.

[He has to pick and choose targets and he hates sitting around if he's not distracted by a book...]

I know we have to be careful. It's just a matter of trying to contain things. But there's already so much destruction... it's hard to imagine that this isn't already unable to be contained.

As I said, it will be ten times worse than it is now if they go to war. The land will become uninhabitable, and an entire civilization could collapse. If it involves the whole of the Great Sea, the land I am claiming to come from will suffer as well. I do not know if the gods are alive there to prevent it, though no doubt Ishtar would thrive in a war.

My best advice on fighting in a large battle is not to do so at all. This isn't even our fight. If there is something that needs to be done, and it is wise to do it, do so quickly without being seen.

[ Honestly, he'd taken a gamble speaking directly to King Richard like he did in Arsuf. Even then, he'd avoided the heat of battle. ]

There are those who will try to find out either side's motives. Perhaps that will help us decide if we should do anything.

What makes you so sure that carrying out any Arcana's goal is the wise thing to do?

[ He played devil's advocate for the Titans too, but that didn't mean he was allying with either side in this conflict. ]

But that shouldn't even work! That's impossible!

[There is only so much unscientific nonsense that she's capable of tolerating. This is apparently the limit.]

So does Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Faery. I've never hear anyone calling them gods.

Madness, like most things is a construct relative to everything else of the one that is being identified as mad.

Just using the way things should be it's impossible. But maybe that's why gods are bad.

.... Maybe we really do need to beat up the gods first. They're messing with everything.

You weren't here the last time we failed a jaunt. I really don't want to sit through another malevolent traffic jam.

Besides, the last time everyone agreed to sit there and do nothing, we got Moebius. I'm not in the business of tempting fate.

There's plenty of us who grew up with it around, so if there's something you've missed I'm sure we can cover it. Not a bad knowledge base to have on hand, though.

That's just because they're old gods who found a loophole to get a little more belief. Nothing likes to die off, after all.

Actually, really, a lot of the time madness defines what sane is. We all work like that. Destruction defines creation, I define life, Dream defines reality.

Really? Nothing? I've met a thing or two that wanted to.

[The only reason why he doesn't want to is he's done it enough already, thanks.]

They all define each.... Wait. You define life? So, you're Death, then?

Yeah. It's useful for my world, though I didn't know it was going to be when I was studying it.

The pantheon I know best would probably largely be calling for war, but I get your point. And I know this isn't our fight, but I don't like the idea of leaving it to the people here... not when there's so many people who will get hurt.

... I'll leave the motive-gathering things to other people. The skills that I have that would allow me to do that best just aren't working anymore. I'm not entirely sure why, but it's extremely annoying. Let me know if you want backup in a fight, though - I'm pretty good at that. Hopefully it won't come to it, but... the offer's there.

Generally they want the pain to end, they don't really want to die. Life's a funny thing. It's a habit you get into.

I am. Not to be confused with the one among our hosts.

Once we get some information on who the Titans are, we can start gathering information about what they want to do, and whether they deserve the support. I'm... not sure what would happen if neither Arcana won, but I'm willing to risk it if the Titans would wind up being poor stewards of these people.
professorwolf: (specs)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2017-04-26 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not necessarily true-- that helping them would perforce be handing the win to Tower. These Titans may be absolutely nothing like the ones in your world. We simply don't know, until we know who they are and can meet them and find out what their plan is.

I don't want to give up hope without even having any facts to work with.

Well, that explains most of your perceptions, then. So which Death are you?
helborn: (and this is my emo tough guy look)

[personal profile] helborn 2017-04-26 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
... They might not be, but I can't exactly help but be suspicious. Sure, some Titans might be good. And sure, some of the Olympians might be awful. But on the whole they don't mix well, so we'll have to pick one or the other, in all likelihood.

I do not hand my suffering down to other people. As Travelers, we at least have a little forewarning, and perhaps some skill at staving off madness. I will not sacrifice the peace and safety of the people who live here, if it comes to a choice between us and them.

That is likely to determine a lot, yes. it sounds like Minako-san's friend is a good lead, and we can't rule out familiar faces either - has anyone seen any of them around?
