...So, interesting thing, and anyone who knows a thing or two about music storage media can help me figure this out - I see records, and cassette tape cows, but nothing newer.

Anyone else spotted CDs or anything? And if not, do we take that as a hint?

There's a CD Player in the DJ's booth... but since I made it, and it doesn't work yet, that probably doesn't count.

As a hint of what we might be up against on the next jaunt. If the newest thing our hosts have stuck in the space is cassette tape, that may give us a time range to shoot for if we feel like speculating.

[But given how the last jaunt went, she wouldn't be surprised if people... don't want to.]

As for why the cows, can't help you there.

Oh, that's nice that we get hints about it even if the rest is still a guessing game... Do we usually get hints of anything else?

[ Not that Usagi is good at guessing games but if it's some era with cassette tapes, maybe they aren't going far from her current age or childhood with the jaunt.]

I mean I haven't seen any cooooo-- [she stops when she just happens to see one, then she's quiet for a moment.] Oh, those. ...So possibly a combination music, aliens and farm animals? [ Is that like alien invasion in a musical or a concert that takes place in the countryside, who knows! ]

That depends on who designed the spaces and how much we take notice, I think.

Maybe not the farm animals? That could just be an 'aliens abduct cows' joke. but we can't rule it out until we get to wherever we're going.

I'm not even sure if I could work a record or a... what did you call it? Cassette tape? Is that one of those with the magnetic strips that get tangled and you can only record a small amount of stuff on them? Such an awful way to store media.

'Old.' They were both pretty common when I was little, until CDs took off. And then there's the vinyl resurgence, not that I understand why.

We still have records. They're mostly in the hands of really rich, nostalgic people, though. Or music snobs.

The other music storage, though... how did you even deal with only what... twelve songs or so?

Well, if it was tapes, I made my brother do it. CDs are pretty all right, though, and MP3s got big when I was in high school.

So between Newport and this, how long of a cap we're talking about in technology?

At least 20 years, probably closer to 30. People really started shifting away from cassettes when I was about six.

Shouldn't be so bad - two or three steps back from Newport, but some things are close enough for some overlap. If I'm myself I'll help you out where I can.

I remember tapes were a thing when I was in nappies, so like- late eighties early nineties, but I don't think that helps much.

Actually, it does. If the only things newer are the ones we brought with us, it might point to a time frame... which so far sounds pretty '80s-tastic. [What joy.]

Unless that's all a red herring and the UFOs are the more important part. We've done space before, no saying we can't do it again.
