It's a fairly general term in English, but I believe the application in this case means "something outside the realm of a mortal's ability to intellectually process". Something even further outside the context of human experience than magic or aliens or even Liminal Space. And, as relayed to me repeatedly about the last time Travelers were in Harrogate, something that can meddle with Liminal Space directly despite being nominally part of this world.

We're looking at a natural result of all the ghosts gathering here, or an Arcanum or a beast that could challenge them meddling with the local geography, I think.

That's very likely, really. Something terrible happened on the last Jaunt here, and if I understand correctly, it all focused around the theater.

That, and I can say from personal experience that ghosts are extremely prone to drama.
