[The psychic feed opens with what is a familiar sight to anyone who's been around for long: Rose playing. Today it's with her Pogemon toys that her doting godparents gave her for her birthday.]

For those of you who are new, this is Rose and she's just the cutest little thing. Do you want to say hi?

Hi! I'm the baby!

And as you can hear, Rosie is on the network. She's just about eighteenish months old, which means she still takes naps.

[He'd like to see that last, okay?]

And what that means is that when people start screaming on the network while she's napping she wakes up. I can only block the network out for her about once a week, so everyone's a lot happier if you take a second to filter any screaming you're meaning to do in everyone's head away from her.

Is it wise to allow the head of a small child to interface with the madmen that have been brought here?

Never really had any say on whether she was connected to the network or not.

I see. Does she need lessons in one of the languages of the great old ones then so she can more easily filter out what is just rambling from true insanity?

From what I heard about that last Jaunt, there is a reason her godparents decided to send us to play with baby dragons.

Sometimes people scream because they've lost the ability to private their thoughts because they're too scared or angry, not because they want to scream.

[She would say "most of the time", but she doesn't actually know.

Still, there are plenty of cases when people don't scream on the network because they want to but without wanting to, she's sure.]

Most folk who know about the situation seem to have gotten the hang of it.

People don't have feelings that strong very often so it looks like that.

Oh, there's been plenty of screaming that she got to sleep through.

Then she just needs to learn to always sleep through it.

Babies aren't famed for their ability to sleep through screaming.

But you just said that she sleeps through it most of the time already.

She sleeps through them because people are filtering her out. Because I've asked before.

She needs to stop relying on others.

[And that is a much more general statement and much more suddenly unrelated and serious than one would probably think. A lot more taking-care-of-the-even-younger-kid, too.]

When do you have time for me to try and teach her how to protect herself?

She's a baby.

[THey're not famed for their independence]

She's not due for a nap for a while, so you can come by if you'd like.

She can move around and talk and hold proper conversations and go on the network and run away. And you could get trapped in a dungeon any time.

[She needs to learn independence. Children can die, or worse, if they don't learn it early on. She almost died because she was too little to take care of herself.]

Of course. The Network is like a language, and it's far easier to learn a language the younger you are. She's learning to speak aloud and think aloud at the same time.

And trust me, Rose, you'll be very glad in the future that you've learned to think.

I think a lot of the time it just doesn't occur to her that she wouldn't be able to do something.

Hm. That's certainly a valid way to "learn" skills here. Discovering that something is possible is much easier when you've never experienced it being "impossible".

Of course then I have to figure out how she did it so I can go up the walls after her...
