[There's a bit too much chaos to deal with it while the flash mob is still going, but as soon as things settle down, for some relative value of settling down, Hijikata's straight on to business.]
If this is your first jaunt: don't panic, try to blend in.
Some of our number are going to think they belong in this world. If you can hear this, then obviously, you're not one of them. Keeping an eye on our infiltrators is usually our second clue to figuring out what the hell we're supposed to be doing here.
Our first one is when we arrive in the middle of some shitstorm like this, though - that usually means something. So it's sounding like this one's got to do with... [A slight noise of frustration. This is not his wheelhouse.] Romantic shit? Valentine's Day? If any of you are experts, now would be a good time to tell the rest of us. Or if you know a lot about, I don't know, weddin-
[Actually, no, this is not how he wants to start wedding planning, he is going to cut himself the hell off there. Embarrassedly.]
We usually start by checking in, anyway, so if you're still yourself, speak up. If you've noticed anyone is definitely an infiltrator, tell us that, too; you might as well save us the trouble of saying something really goddamned stupid to them while we're trying to figure it out.

.. or so Chizuru thinks when he puts it that way, anyway.. ]
That's amazing..! [ She doesn't even hesitate to say it. ] Toshizou was really amazing, after all.. um, even if he didn't use the word marry directly, he said that he wanted us to be happy together like that, and that if he's doing something right since he hasn't scared me off then he wants to keep doing that right.. that's sweet, isn't it?
[ And also totally Hijikata-y. But Chizuru is so biased towards it that she doesn't even think it's that bad. ]
1/??
Oh, he didn't use the word marry?

ok done
NOT AS PLANNED.
ABORT MISSION... ]
...to take you for romantic adventures on.

Instead what she seems to get from all this is-- ]
Eh..? You really think he'd write haikus about me? [ bad haikus? :( ]

[ hopefully not bad ones but it is Hijikata so... ]

.. Okita-san knows a lot about his poetry, right?
[ Since Chizuru actually hadn't figured that pattern out at all yet.. but that's exactly why it's so nice. It's a sign of the fact that Souji and Hijikata are closer than their bickering might make them seem to people who don't know them as well - since Souji, despite making fun of the poetry, actually bothers to pay attention to it at the same time. ]

Obviously he does not see it this way in terms of Hijikata but he's also a blockhead so ... ]

[ Well, maybe calling it an "understanding" is going a little far.. Chizuru is aware of that. But she does know that despite their fights, there's some sort of bond there that can't be broken.
And that's important. For both of their wellbeings, she's sure. ]

[ you are gonna get one anyway. ]
He likes plums and cherry blossoms and gets stupidly sentimental about them and his favorite color is red—you know, he used to have a ribbon tie in his hair almost exactly like yours, but he discontinued using it when we left Edo. Ahh, Kondou-san looked like he might cry over it.
Even though he seems like he hates everything but tea, but he really likes takuwan. Has Chizuru-chan made takuwan before?

[ Yes, she's actually parrotting the language name back at him. Almost since it sounds so close to being a legit thing?! Is this something she should have known earlier.. but at least she's making sure to memorize every!! single!! thing!! Souji is telling her here just in case it might be useful in the future. ]
Oh-- no, I haven't! [ Snapped out of her memorisation thoughts by that sudden question, give her a moment to catch up. ] That must be why I didn't know..
[ ON THE LIST OF STUFF TO MAKE ASAP. ]
Is there any other sort of dish he likes? I guess Okita-san would know better than most.. [ Even if he would also be more quick to troll with the wrong answer than most, but.. you know. Chizuru, too trusting, this is how it goes. ]

He thinks it's cute, though, admittedly, the way she reacts. Even more than annoying Hijikata, he might just be doing it so he gets to see her being like that without her ever realizing it. Sometimes he gets pleasure out of really little things...!
Poor Chizuru. Souji laughs, though, seeming willing to spare her for her being trusting in the first place toward him, backing off for now. ]
I think so. But, Chizuru-chan will get overworked if she has too many things to offer at once. I can't let that happen. Next time, we'll proceed to lesson two.
[ why would anyone ever want him as a teacher... ibuki would be happy to change their minds if they actually did, right... ]

Alright then. [ She accepts it so easily.. and she's even cheerful about it, on top of that-- ] I'll try my best to learn a lot again next time, too..!
