[He takes a deep breath, seeming just a little shaky.]

At least they're probably not dead or worse than dead, here. Being out of ambit sucks, but from what she's seen of dungeons, it's not as bad as it could be.]

That's true. But then, it could always be worse. That's not always a comfort to people whose friends are lost to them.

[She nods thoughtfully.] A lot of people aren't used to losing friends to anything but them moving away or having an argument with them. And some people react badly even when they're used to it.

[It obviously also depends on how close you've let yourself grow to others.]

Yes. [Unlike Armin - and, it seems, Kitty.] I take it people vanish like that on your world sometimes, then.

They do sometimes.

It depends a bit on who you are, though, and what you do for a job, and such. Rich people are safer than poor people, and influential people and their families are safer than those who aren't, and such. [The more resources to protect you you have, the less likely you are to have something happen to you, essentially.] And when you do riskier tasks it's more likely that you'll be gone. And such.

I'm pretty sure rich people are safer than poor people in any world. In my world, they lived inside Wall Sina - the third and inmost set of walls. Poor people lived on the border, right inside Wall Maria - or after Maria fell, Wall Rose. [Guess where Armin lived.]

[She isn't surprised to hear that, even though she can't fully understand because she lacks some important details.

But rich people will always be the safest.] And the rich people probably didn't realize how bad things were outside, or if they did thought poor people were expendable?

A combination of the two, I'm sure. Mostly the former before Wall Maria fell, mostly the latter afterward.

Rich people are probably the same everywhere.

...and they're worse when the world around them is worse. [Having been to a few worlds now, she feels like she can say that safely. The less fucked up the world, the less fucked up the rich people, or maybe the other way around. She's not sure.]

I'd tend to agree with you there. And the pattern - the behavior of the rich across the multiverse, with few exceptions - is fairly hard to ignore.

Exceptions? Like, individuals, or worlds where it is different?

Individuals. I've never encountered a world where it's different.

[She shouldn't be surprised, probably, but she's still a bit disappointed.

Not surprised though, no.] I guess there isn't one. [It's not even sad. It's just how things are. You could be upset about humans having heads, that would be equally productive.]
