But as some of you already heard, Toshizou and I are going to get married during this Jaunt. [ And despite somewhat natural nervousness of but whAT IF IT'S INCONVENIENT FOR EVERYONE ELSE lingering in her tone, she does sound very happy. It's not hard to tell. Just some nervous happy jitters about it still, really. ] It'll be on the 11th, so.. if you want to come, you can..! But I understand that people are busy with more important things as well, so please don't feel obligated at all..

[ .. look, maybe it's not the best announcement, but it could've been worse. It could've been Toshizou "COME OR DON'T IDGAF SHIT DAMN PISS HELL" Hijikata saying it. Instead it's just lingered with Chizuru's constant need to put her own needs fifteen miles behind everyone else's. ]

I think PSYCHENet is going to officiate it, so it could also maybe be helpful for finding out more about this Jaunt. If people are wondering about that sort of thing instead, I mean.

[ Usually she would protest to that, but.. well, it's Souji. It's not like it's the first time she's heard it, so her answer is a little more fond than that. ]

When it's Okita-san, I don't think it's all that bad to worry just a little bit extra.

If I didn't know better, I'd say Chizuru-chan was catering to me like a child.

[ one of the few times he's ok with it, to be honest. ]

Well.. you've done so much for me, it's only natural to look out for you in return, right?

[ It mostly left such a strong impression on her since.. well, when she first arrived, during her first Jaunt, it really had only been the two of them. And that was already after Souji had already been dead for a while in their world, yet he treated her just like always - he stuck with her, he made sure she could stay with him, he protected her.

That, and-- she's a little aware of the fact this wedding might be a little painful to someone else for once. With some others it went completely over her head, but she realises it in this case since she doesn't think it'll be painful for Souji because she's getting married, but because Hijikata is. She knows that despite the way they interact, they mean a lot to each other, and..

.. well, she just doesn't want him to feel lonely or left out. It wouldn't feel right. ]

Your happiness is really important to me too.

[ yeah you both are awful pain-inflicting individuals for him, to be honest— ]

[ DON'T.. JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS, CHIZURU.. but maybe it's just since she was So Focused on making sure Souji doesn't feel left out just now that this entered her brain so suddenly it straight on flipped to that.. ]

[ he can't help but laugh really hard because she's so sincere in her surprise and questioning and therefore Souji doesn't pursue it further despite having probably intended to. ]

Well.. if you ever do get married, I'll help out..! Although I guess that means we'll have to find a nice girl first.. [ Time to start matchmaking, tbh. ]

There are plenty of nice girls, we have to find a single one, more importantly.

[ he doesn't realize she's actually considering this or he probably wouldn't encourage her... Probably... ]

What sort of girl do you like..?

[ Because thinking about it, Chizuru actually has no idea.. it'd have to be a girl who can take good care of him, she's at least got that mentally noted down, but she's pretty sure that's not where Souji's own priorities lie foremost. ]

Girls like Chizuru-chan herself and Mai-chan and Neria-chan are all good examples, I think.

[ Well, she's taken.. and she's not sure if she can trust Mai to Souji (she could trust Souji to Mai, but the other way around...), all things considered, so.. ]

.. does Neria-san have someone she likes?

Yes, I think so.

Then-- I'll keep my eyes open for sure! If it's a partner for Okita-san, then it can only be the best, after all.. [ She's at least serious about that though. She needs to entrust her boys to someone good, okay!! And in Souji's case someone who can handle him on top of it, it'll be hard mode to find someone, but Chizuru is Determined now. Leave no Shinsengumi captain unloved. ]

...Chizuru-chan, I don't think it's so necessary to put yourself out like this.

[ Okay, for Chizuru it's just natural in general to do these sort of things. To worry about everyone, to work herself to the bone for everyone.. it happens all the time.

But in this case there's a few more layers to it, of course. ]

[ She's quiet for a moment. Because fulfilling that wish is pretty easy. With the wedding coming up, of course she's happy, but even so.. ]

Somehow.. something about that sounds a little sad.

[ It's always hard to get an idea of what Souji really is thinking, anyway. Chizuru has gotten a little better at it over the years, but it's still not like she can always tell - far from it. ]

[ is it, he wants to say, but he's trying to be sincere without dragging her mood through the mud as she's having a wedding really soon. This is definitely hard, though... because if he says the reason he doesn't want to bother with anyone else, well... he'd like to not throw the fact he's dead back home and will most likely be so again when these travels are over. ]

I think it would be even sadder if you went through the efforts and I failed to make them happy. Then, you would be unhappy also.

I know you're capable of making people happy though.

[ She's emphasizing this point rather than the dead at home one, since.. well, she thinks Souji might not believe this one as easily either. But Chizuru knows it's true -- hasn't he made her happy too? Not all the time, but that had more to do with their circumstances than necessarily with him being him.

Even if her first impression of him was that he's frightening, by now she knows better. ]

Only if I'm the only one that can make them really happy. [ which, as this point, he's pretty sure is not a person that exists anywhere at all. ]

The rest would never notice once they got their real happiness.

.. Eh? [ Chizuru blinks to herself for a moment. It's hard to tell if this is just something Souji has told himself or that it's based on something that actually happened, so a slight hint of concern can't help but creep in. ]
