Open to All Investigators-Beginning of Digital Frontier Jaunt

For those who are experiencing this for the first time, don't worry. Just keep calm and listen to this message.

If you're hearing this, you're what we call an investigator: someone who retains their memories from their home and other worlds if they have them while in a Jaunt. Some of us have blended in with the setting and are called Infiltrators; don't try and jog their memory back otherwise we'll be in a lot of trouble. They also cannot use the network we're on right now.

What we need to know now is who's not thinking they're a program and what they have noticed so far. Anything will help us try and figure out a way to solve this next issue.

Kanji and Naoto are both infiltrating. [If you think Naoki sounds extremely grumpy about this... well, you're right. That's his go-to planning group shot completely to hell. He was very busy operating within his comfort zone, dammit.

Oh well. Just gonna have to work past that, it seems.]

They're both on the Blue Team - didn't catch a name for it, but that'll make it easier to keep an eye on them, I hope. Red Team's called the Defenders. Kanji said they're supposed to keep things safe, but he sounded pretty upset about it and didn't specify which things, so they might be a little turned around on their priorities. Either way, Red Team and Blue Team don't seem to like each other much.

I think the Green Team's something called Cryptos? They're either as new as us or they've been out of commission for a long time, or everyone else wouldn't be so excited to see them out and about again.

That's all I've got so far. [He feels like it isn't much, but it's not too bad for a day's work, really. When you spend a year investigating a murder, you get used to watching for stuff.]

So that's a few of us...

So the Green Team...Cryptos? Might be something they're involved in that we may need to look into.

There might be, yeah. And I think someone's going to need to try to get in Red Team's good graces so we can get their side of the story.

[It'll have to be someone else, though. Naoki's going to keep an eye on Kanji and Naoto as best he can.]

Anyone we know in the Red Team?

I'm not sure, but I think Souji-san. I didn't approach him, though.

[Can you hear the facepalm.]

I probably will have to avoid him until we leave.

That bad, Yua-san?

How do you think he'll react at seeing a version of himself as a girl?

Probably very bad.

...Okay, I'll give you that. He'd probably think you were a virus or something.

Yeah and I rather not want to end up hurting him because I sometimes can't hold back.

And if Red Team's as paranoid as they seem to be, he'd probably say or do something to deserve it. [Now he's really glad Kanji and Naoto at least got dumped on the same side of this mess.]

Still, someone - probably not you, and it definitely won't be me - needs to get their side of it, so we actually have a complete picture to work with. We need to know what they think they're doing, what Blue Team thinks they're doing, and what Green Team's even about before we can try to untangle it. The biggest wrinkle I'm seeing is in how to get Red Team to do something other than glare at us suspiciously.

[Spoken like a true Investigation Team second-in-command - and like someone very, very used to reining in Kanji's more impulsive moments.]

It won't be easy that's for sure.

All we can do for the moment is watch. Jumping in head first won't do us very good.

Naoto-san is? Oh.

[He's disappointed! Naoto's awesome at figuring this stuff out.

...also he just likes Naoto.]

Yeah. That's my usual planning team shot completely to hell. How am I supposed to work inside my comfort zone now? [It's pretty clear from Naoki's tone that he's aware it's a bad tendency to have, but it's still one he embraces having. Besides, he's not at all happy about this.]

Yeah, I'm okay.

[Ken always claims to be okay. It's a Thing.]

I hope everyone who's good at figuring things out isn't infiltrating, though.

Hey, I have a year of practice with strange mysteries, too. I like to think I can do all right. It's just easier when you have someone to bounce it off of.

[And he doesn't know many other people yet... and the one he's talked to the most so far is Adachi. That's a big fat 'not if Naoki can help it' right there, at least until they manage a few more civil conversations.]

If you feel like you're in over your head, don't hesitate to let me know, okay? I know you can take care of yourself, but everyone needs backup now and then. [Besides, Naoto would probably like to know one of her friends is looking out for Ken.]

I didn't mean to imply that everyone who's left isn't, it's just...Naoto-san's really smart.

[And is apparently getting a fan club, huh.]

Don't worry, I got it. [He knows just how smart Naoto is. Why do you think he's so upset he can't work with her right now? As for the fan club, that's nothing new.]

All this color-coding is probably going to make it harder to blend in, isn't it?

Probably. We're just going to have to do the best we can.

I'm going to try to keep an eye on Naoto and Kanji, if they'll put up with me hanging around.

[This is hilariously complicated, but on the other hand, since it's happened to Naoki too, that ought to simplify the explanation.]

We're from the same place, except we're not exactly.

One of those, huh? I'm sorry. It's weird, isn't it? [When people think they know you, and they sort of do, but you barely know them at all. Or you know them better than they expect you to.]

I feel bad about not remembering her, even if I know it's not like I could and it was somebody else for me.
