So I guess right now we're doing introductions and getting heavy shit out of the way, huh? I'm Toshizou Hijikata - the taller one, with the cyberarm. There's two of us with the same name here.

I've talked to a few people about this already, but I realized a while ago that we should probably stockpile supplies when we can - there's been a few times we've been stuck here in liminal space for extended periods of time, and some of the Jaunts aren't to the most habitable places. And there's a limit to what I can store in liminal space, not to mention that if I'm out of the picture, nobody can get to it - it benefits us all for anyone who can store stuff to do so. Water or water purification supplies, food that won't spoil, medical supplies, shit like that. Don't steal if if you can help it - trade work or supplies with the locals, or find someone with currency left over from something else.

I also have some tazers for anyone who doesn't have a weapon or other means of self-defense and wants one. They're pretty easy to use, but the charge is limited and I'm not swimming in power supplies.

And I know this is a long shot but - anyone here with any skill at cybernetics maintenance?

[There's something a bit rough and tired to Malik's mental voice, even as he speaks with crisp efficiency.]

The Defenders and Miners are wrong, and you do not have all you should. I do not know what everyone has been told but hopefully this information will not be too late to help.

The Automata do not seek to destroy the grid or infect the rest of the network. They are trying to stop the Cryptos from escaping and have been trying to do so since the beginning.

Nothing anyone has told you of them is likely true.

[He pauses before continuing again.]

What you need to know is this.

There is a covert team of automata who are trying to preserve the grid. They are under the directive of a... I am not sure that pair is the right word? The Users they are following the directive of are some sort of creature and two who were once one.

[He doesn't know anything of Trumps or tarot, being from the middle ages is difficult sometimes when having to deal in symbology.]

I will not argue over the fact that they are dangerous. The desperate acting against overwhelming numbers tend to be.

I can answer what I know of, and offer what conclusions I have come to.

One of which is that the Cryptos are far more of a danger than I think anyone realizes.

...I will also need a sword once I return to the grid if any have one to lend.

That prison had some new people in it. If you weren't expecting to hear this, don't panic - as the locals might say, it's a feature, not a bug. Everyone else, help them settle in some? This has to be at least twice as disorienting as usual.

While I'm here, is there anyone around who's any good at bomb disposal?

[People who know Naoki decently well might notice that he sounds... a little different. Like something lit a fire under his ass. (Spoilers: Something did.)]

Everyone, I hope you guys are doing alright after that massive attack...hopefully we won't have to do one for awhile but knowing our luck, I don't count on it. I do however have some things I would like to either tell you and ask you at the same time.

The first thing: I found one of the Trumps. She's a blue haired program who is the biggest workaholic I have ever met and I've taken on at least three or four part time jobs back home. She's also looking for something as well...

For those who have been around the Cryptos or Green Team, has any of them mention a 'center' like a hub maybe? It's not much but it's all I got.

One more thing: be careful when speaking to the Trump. She can claim up to five of us. Not only that...

[Her voice tightens.]

These jaunts...what we do to help others...they're games to them. If 'round' means anything...there's a lot more things we stumbled on.

So, um. Now that the chaos has calmed down some - is everyone all right, by the way? - we could use a little help.

Naoto and Ambrose-san and I found a fortress. What we know right now is it's some kind of prison, and there are active containment traps in the halls. There might be something - or even someone - in it.

We could use some help figuring this out. If anyone's any good at disabling traps, or if you know someone from Blue or Green Team who is and can talk them into helping, we're in B10. It sounds like the options are to get a lot of people from Blue Team to scan the building all at once or go in and poke around, so we need the help either way.

For obvious reasons, we'd rather keep Red Team out of this as long as possible. Depending on what we find they might stick their noses in anyway, but the longer we can put that off, the better.

[So (with mod permission) Giovanni managed to sneak into the Partition with a little magic (no, literally, he got Zatanna to give him red circuits to get inside) and from there learned a few interesting tidbits of information that he would like to get out to the rest of the Investigators. He also stole some Defender armor and a baton or two but that's completely besides the point.

Thus, as Giovanni makes his way back out of the Partition with his stolen goods the Assassin sends out a quiet message on the psychic network. His mental voice is calm and controlled, but it would be hard to miss the undercurrent of excitement and import in the words as well.]

I have managed to find out a few things about our dear 'friends' the Defenders today.

In case you did not get the chance to meet him on our first day here, there was a one-eyed program watching critically over the proceedings. That is the Defender known as JORD1 and he is their leader. Talk around the fortress--or Partition as they call it--indicates that he is a very dedicated program when it comes to his function. It quickly became clear that he will do whatever it takes to defend the system no matter the cost. That cost could be quite high, I fear, if given the chance but I'll come back to that point in a moment.

The Partition itself is a curious place. For any of those interested in such information the fortress is composed of four quarters: the barracks, the armory, the Ports, and the Administration Tower. (If anyone would like an actual map of the area I could provide a sketch should you wish for one.) The former two places I mentioned are self-explanatory; the latter two are quite important. The Ports have something to do with a network of communication and only two programs have access to them apparently. JORD1, naturally the Defender leader would have control over this vital process, and a program known as ROSE, a Miner I believe. It would seem though that ROSE never uses the Ports. Whether that is a recent development or not, I could not say for certain.

[After a small pause he continues.]

The Administration Tower is full of the Defenders' more critical functions. It houses not only the higher key figures but several detention cells full of programs waiting to be processed and rooms dedicated to [he speaks this next carefully, slowly:] the re-purposing of programs. [It's clear from his tone he doesn't like the sound of that. It's possible he witnessed this from a hiding spot, or at least heard enough from a dark corner somewhere nearby to figure out what it entailed, and Did Not Like.] I also made a trip to the scrupulously guarded dungeon of the Tower and found a very interesting item there. Like most things here it glowed with a bright current of power, however, I had a feeling it was more than just a trinket considering the circumstances and waited long enough to discover its name and purpose.

[He swears he did not put a pause to his words here for dramatic purposes but it occurred anyway as he collected his thoughts carefully before proceeding with the business end of his tirade.]

They called it 'the Bomb.'

I do not think I have to explain the implications of such a device. Least to say, I fear what may be done with it if it is used and--not to cause any alarms--but from what I gathered I have little doubt the Prime Defender would think twice to use it if he felt the need to do so.

On a further note, I do not suggest trying to get into the Partition to steal the device. [Or the Recognizer. Guys, seriously, do not try to steal the Recognizer without including Giovanni in the very brief joyride that would entail.] It was heavily guarded and even I had some small difficulty getting out once the illusion upon my ..circuitry.. wore off. [Although getting in and out was the only hard part for Giovanni; sneaking around inside had been a relative cake-walk for the stealthy Assassin.] Besides, the consequences that would likely incite would be devastating to this Grid. The Defenders could easily obliterate the other programs in the System. I suggest instead a different route to prevent its use: let us simply make sure events do not unfold to make it a necessary evil for the Defenders to use it. That means waiting, of course, and keeping a sharp eye upon things while we are here. It may not be ideal but I urge to err on the side of caution.

[There is a considerably more lengthy pause here this time, purposeful, an allowance for everything he just said and implied to sink in with anyone listening. Hopefully, he hasn't started a panic or encouraged an overzealous individual to take things into their own hands. But he wanted to get the information out there so everyone could be aware of the potential danger should it come to pass.]

I am open to further discussion upon any matter mentioned just now. I will try to answer as many questions as I can to any that may have them.

It can't hurt to try to put some pieces together now that we've had a little more time, right?

Has anyone been able to get anything other than suspicious glares from the Red Team? The more I hear, the less I like the status quo, but if we don't know what the hell they think they're doing we can't really make an informed decision on where to go from here.

I'm also trying to figure out what the... well, the purpose of the Games is. Okay, you get higher Priority out of it, great, but at what cost? If Red Team's so paranoid, why do they allow this distraction from everyone's jobs?

Why is it falling to us and Blue Team to clean up major threats? Speaking of, I hope you guys are all holding up all right, if you've been tangled up in that. The sector I was helping out with lucked out - it was a problem a lot of us have dealt with before, in a way.

No wonder Naoto's getting frustrated.

For those who are experiencing this for the first time, don't worry. Just keep calm and listen to this message.

If you're hearing this, you're what we call an investigator: someone who retains their memories from their home and other worlds if they have them while in a Jaunt. Some of us have blended in with the setting and are called Infiltrators; don't try and jog their memory back otherwise we'll be in a lot of trouble. They also cannot use the network we're on right now.

What we need to know now is who's not thinking they're a program and what they have noticed so far. Anything will help us try and figure out a way to solve this next issue.
