Er... Sorry to bother everyone with something so... comparatively inconsequential, but...

[ Jess pauses for a moment or two, because she can't help feeling awkward about this. This is so stupid. ]

I don't make a good blonde. And quite honestly, I really hate to fulfill my parents' dream of being their perfect Aryan superchild, and my roots are growing in, so...

Black hairdye. Can someone make it for me? I can't really... pay you back, but I'll do what I can.

[The broadcast goes out in the latter half of the third week of mass markings. Liara's voice is likely familiar, but where her telepathic communication is usually crisp and clear, this time it has an odd, echoing quality, almost as though she's livestreaming a recording of speech. There isn't much by way of inflection - it sounds, perhaps, as though she's reading from a screen, or repeating something over-rehearsed.]

I am certain that by now, most of you have seen the media room that makes up the third stage of this iteration of Liminal Space. It is a reproduction of a portion of a place we refer to as Moebius, and the location of the first Jaunt the oldest of us remember.

The computer banks within that room do not hold information about the Jaunt itself. They do not hold information about our captors. They only hold records of our own deaths. I would...

[There's a brief skip, as though the connection has faltered, though there's no evidence of disruption.]

I would strongly advise everyone to leave them alone. And whatever you do, do not attempt to Interface with them. The accounts are quite intimate.

I have the list of Travelers who have vanished. [Armin's face is serious, yet at the same time almost studiously blank - devoid of expression or emotion, much more so than usual.]

Tim, Phedre, Istas, Leonardo, Joscelin, Sansa, Ezio, Asa, Vilari, and Robin. [Even as controlled as he is, he can't help the slight tremble, and the tightening around the eyes when he mentions Sansa.]

...I'm sorry.

Tho—

[The would-be mental shout cuts off before the first syllable is even finished. There’s a brief pause, and then Pod’s actual voice comes back, and it’s all filtered away from baby Rose.]

Those spineless, mealy-mouthed, Hornet-hoofed, pustulant offspring of asps and dark mages! They can’t claim me! I belong to Kerras. I don’t—

Argh! Goddess curse them to never find rest nor hearth.

[ Steph's voice is oddly flat for her, tone carefully controlled. ]

Okay, so... now that we're all back together and everyone knows who they are again... or, well, most of us, anyway...

Who here was a Manticore Knight? And do any of you know what the hell happened to Tim when he was infiltrating? There weren't that many of them, he was one of them, and his body was full of bullet holes in their morgue, so someone has to know.
mysunnydisposition: (bat: comms)

[ Steph is trying very hard to keep her mental voice calm and level, and mostly succeeding. She's hanging onto it by her fingernails, but she'll take what she can get. ]

Is there anyone investigating who's good at telepathic stuff? Or at least better than me? Or are they all infiltrating?

I need help with something, and it can't really wait until the end of the jaunt.

[ Okay, maybe it can. She can't. ]

...also, when's the last time anyone saw Tim as an infiltrator? He was a Manticore Knight. I want to know what happened to him.

Okay, I think I've got the hang of this. Can you hear me?

Not that it's really hearing, it seems like it's an internal voice. Mental.

We're Travelers, we're opposing some sort of organization called the Manticore Knights, and we have access to the world they're in and a place called a liminal - is that right?

I don't see anyone else here, so I must be in liminal right now...

Is there an orientation process in place? What's an infiltrator, in this context?

[Joscelin's voice, sent across the network, is warm, dry, composed - instilled with enough confidence, he hopes, to reassure the new and uncertain.]

A calm beginning makes for a welcome change. We should still start sharing what we know. Who's with us, and who is missing? Who is infiltrating? What do we know about this world?

If this is your first Jaunt - and there were many new faces in Liminal Space - ask for assistance, and we'll give it.

I'll begin. This is Joscelin Verreuil. We're on the coast of an island, somewhere between Alba and Terre D'Ange- England and France, I think, locally. Magic of some sort appears to be open and commonplace. I can't make sense of their calendar, but we're in or just after the Twentieth Century, as.... Christians... reckon time. This is a port where foreigners are common and unremarked. I have clothes that fit the era, and in my pockets were ten five-pound notes. The Trumps don't mean for us to be spotted immediately, or starve, but I can't guess more than that.
mysunnydisposition: (bat: comms)

Ummm...

[ Steph's voice comes across the network late at night, or perhaps early in the morning, after another one of those little tremors jolted her awake. She's not sure how many other people are even up now, but it's kind of hard for her to get back to sleep when she keeps imagining getting buried by ash in the middle of the night. ]

So, is anyone else a little concerned about the way the mountain's acting lately? I mean. I know Leonardo said it's a few years until anything happens to this place, but... that's a few years in the worlds we know. What if history's different here, and we're here now because of that? What if...

I don't know. It's too hot to sleep right now. I think I'm going for a walk on the beach, if anyone wants to come with.

What the fuck? What the fuck!

-=unlike when he was infiltrating as a human, his voice still sounds harsh and whispery (though loud enough over the network) and he is clearly in a tizzy about something=-

How do you mammals move around like this? I can't- it's all just out there?? I can't take a step without this impractical sack of meat and skin bouncing around between my legs.

What the hell am I doing wrong? Are you supposed to tuck it away somewhere so walking doesn't feel like you're punching yourself in the dick over and over again? What is wrong with nature, this is such a horrible design.

[The first part of Leonardo's broadcast seems to be a misfire, in only that it is quiet and almost disbelieving.]

Non è possible... this is... home? Italia...?

We are in the Kingdom of Naples... no, that is back in my time, this is Campania felix... Dio mio, we're in Stabiae--

[There is silence for a good fifteen minutes, as Leonardo prepares and questions the populace. Then, he finally comes on the Network.]

For anyone who is listening, I have some good news. And some bad news. The good news is that I have located our exact location in space and time. We are in Stabiae, an ancient Roman resort which Pliny the Elder described in detail in his records. The year, at least according to the gossip of Emperor Nero's daughter, Claudia Augusta, and her recent death, and the recent appointment of Titus Vespasian as the governor of Africa Proconsularis, indicate that this is the Year of Our Lord 63.

The bad news is that in sixteen years, this place will be completely destroyed with ash, much like the city just five miles north of here, Pompeii. In fact this entire region will be flooded with molten earth and ash, and be consumed entirely. Further, Emperor Nero is on the throne, according to The Natural History, as written by Pliny the Elder... and I am sure you have heard of the stories of Emperor Nero.

I will be referring to myself during this Jaunt as Leontius Florentinus Vincio. Just Leontius will do, if you see me, but it is the best translation of my name I could come up with on short notice. If you require names to blend in, please, let me know and I will do my best to translate... or transliterate your names, should it be impossible. They usually come in three names, though sometimes two in women's cases, that being her name and the name of her husband. But it can be more or less depending on one's epic deeds or acts of heroism, or simply their fame throughout the Empire.

Further, a few points of advice on etiquette. Men are expected to wear togas. [He briefly livestreams a picture of himself in a toga and traditional sandals.] Ladies, do not wear a toga, like the men, unless you would like to be mistaken for a prostitute. Instead, find or make a stola. [He briefly livestreams a random gaggle of women walking past, each one wearing pretty stolas and giggling amongst themselves.]

Secondly, if you are to claim family ties, keep in mind which one is the eldest male in your "family". If you are a father, grandfather, or sometimes an elder brother or elder cousin - you are in charge, and you are expected to be obeyed no matter what. Younger brothers might or might not, depending upon the will of the deceased father, but... it is best if you choose your family ties wisely. If you argue in public, people will grow suspicious, or they will believe you are uncivilized and will try not to speak to you. Obviously, this would be difficult to further our investigation.

It is probably best to claim that you are from distant parts of the Empire if your native homeland is from outside Ancient Rome's bounds. Perhaps you can claim you are traders from distant lands, but you will not be treated as Roman citizens, that way. Many of the outer provinces were treated lesser than the inner provinces. Still, it is worth a try, to maintain appearances and keep our illusion going.

If you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to ask me, but try not to come to me in person. I wish to remain as inconspicuous as possible.

So somebody wanna tell me where the Trumps were hidin' this Jaunt? My other self in there was kinda on the sidelines of whatever action went down, given the whole havin'-a-baby thing, and I don't remember talkin' to anythin' that might fit a Trump in disguise.

[Little does she know... still, it's a place to start the conversation for various interested parties, right? Including herself. Because she's not actually even sure which Trump marked her.]

Well. That was fun. [He's had far too much practice sounding sarcastic even in his head, but he's at least keeping the fatigue out.]

Glad not to be hobbling around on geta anymore, though I got to keep the mask? What is with the Trumps and owls and me?

Anyway, is everyone okay? If we're missing someone, let me know and I'll see if I can sniff them out to double-check.

Unrelated to... most everything else, but I have a question for you all.

What are parents supposed to be like? Having them, or even being one.

I ask because I do not... actually know from first-hand experience. I never really knew mine and I have no children of my own.

[Someone has been hitting the truth sharing apples probably a bit more than he should have, so expect some storytime.]

Sooooo I don't know who's been talking to Kyan at all, but he's been trying to figure out what's going on with the Tachyon storm. Apparently, he's thinking now maybe we shouldn't try to outrun it. He's not scared of it anymore, apparently, and since the data in it is so organized he's wondering if it's carrying information about something...?

I don't really know what that could mean, but considering we're trying to outrun the thing (and sort of failing at the moment), I feel like this is probably important.

Has anyone had any luck closing the Liminal portals? I don't have anything to go off of, other than guesswork, but it seems like cutting that off might be the best way to keep all of us from ending up dead in space. Although I suppose that would be one solution. But probably not the one we want.

What the hell is going on!?

[Eren has evidently found a secluded enough space to start literally yelling at the Network. Enjoy the extremely loud and slightly panicked voice in your heads, Travelers.]

I'd heard some people could get back into Liminal Space on a Jaunt, but no one said anything about these doorways opening up and letting anyone through! I thought it was supposed to just be Investigators! Is this normal!?

[Now the worry in his voice gets a lot more obvious.]

I thought going back into Liminal Space was what turned Infiltrators back into themselves. But I've already seen some of them go in and not turn back! This doesn't mean they're all stuck like this now, does it!?

((ooc note: I really wanted to make this post, but Real Life is probably going to delay my replies until Monday. Sorry about that, I'll get back to this as soon as I can!))

Um... hello! My name's Connie? Hi.

Wow, this is weird. [ she giggles softly and nervously ]

So, um, I had a question for the people who've been here a little longer than me? Um, see, the last place we went, I sort of ended up coming back with a gryphon egg. Aaaand it may have hatched earlier today.

And I remember how to take care of it, mostly! So that's okay, um, just... well, first, I don't really know how to get him food? But also, um, I was wondering what would happen to him if I end up thinking I'm someone else again? Because if he's stuck here and I can't take care of him, he could die, and I really... really don't want that to happen.

Anyway, thank you very much and I'm sorry for taking up so much of your time!

[As much as Naoki's wanted to say some of this since... well, since halfway through the mess in Misericordia, he decided to hold off and gather his thoughts first. As bad as that was for him and Kanji, it was worse for other people, and from what he's gathered the other jaunt wasn't exactly a picnic either. And then there was the party, and making that many drinks is more attention-consuming than you might think - and, well, no point in dumping that on people in the same moment as Armin-san's list of the departed. But he doesn't want this to wait until after the next jaunt.

It may not make a whole lot of sense to the new people, but hey, they can get explanations along the way.]

Okay. Now that we've all had a little time to decompress, I have a couple things I want to get on the table.

We need to start pooling information about where we've been, considering how often lately it's turned out to be where at least some of us are going. I know there's not much to be done about Moebius or anything that came before it, but... if we'd had more than half-panicked half-information halfway through everything in Misericordia, we might've been able to save some of our group a world of hurt. I'm not looking to cast blame for what's already happened, I'm looking to improve our chances going forward. [Alcuin and Ambrose tried, and it's not their fault things happened as they did.]

Whenever we can be prepared, there's no reason we shouldn't be. I'm sure some of us have been keeping private records, but we need something everyone can get to. If we can keep a log of the basics of these places - the nuts and bolts, maybe a note of what Trumps showed up if any - it'll help keep us out of a little trouble, anyway. I don't know the best way to do something like this, but I think we need at least one physical copy, since not everyone can work backwards on the network. Probably multiple copies of it, to cover for split groups and infiltrating and all that. A computer that people could Interface the information from might work, but that runs into the same storage issues, not to mention needing a computer for it in the first place.

Helena-san's trying to write up Purgatory as a story. We settled on trying that one because I know the most about it of anything I've been here for but she hadn't. Depending on how well that goes, she'll probably want to talk to people about some of the others, and either way I think we'll have a starting point.

If anyone's willing to help, donate notes, offer a place to keep everything, whatever - I'll take any help I can get with this thing. It's a resource we need, especially if the split-group situation keeps happening.

Another thing that came up in Misericordia before everything went to hell was the idea of trying to run a Sift on a familiar face. This one I'm mostly leaving to everyone who kept Sift - I bet the parameters would be tricky, from what Naoto's said about it before, but establishing a good set would give everyone a chance to try it, next time we run into one of them. All I can really offer on that end is my Assistance, if I'm there and myself when the chance comes.

[Cue the sound of a fifteen-year-old trying to play it cool and not sound nearly as nervous as she was starting to get:]

So...uh...shot in the dark here: is there anyone who's special abilities are acting a little...off?  [Because that was so specific]  Either the ones you've picked up from Jaunts along the way, or whatever powers you had before you got here?

[There might have been a slight emphasis on the latter, which was what she was more concerned with at the moment.]

No reason.  I was just curious, is all.

[She wasn't just curious.]
