Open to All Investigators-Beginning of Digital Frontier Jaunt

For those who are experiencing this for the first time, don't worry. Just keep calm and listen to this message.

If you're hearing this, you're what we call an investigator: someone who retains their memories from their home and other worlds if they have them while in a Jaunt. Some of us have blended in with the setting and are called Infiltrators; don't try and jog their memory back otherwise we'll be in a lot of trouble. They also cannot use the network we're on right now.

What we need to know now is who's not thinking they're a program and what they have noticed so far. Anything will help us try and figure out a way to solve this next issue.

No, he's been changed to - I'm not sure what he's supposed to be, honestly. He looks kind of like a floating polyhedron.

[She's not sure how best to explain it to Inigo, since she's guessing he's never seen or heard of Tron.]

I shall have to take your word for whatever that might be. I have to admit I am rather the odd one out in these kind of surroundings, although I have been trying to blend in..

You've seen dice, right? Or other cube-shaped things? Those are a type of polyhedron. Mothman's got a lot more sides than a cube, though. Or at least, he does here.

Ah, yes. I do know what those are. [ Even if he's imagining some sort of twenty-side dice now.. floating after a person.. that just sounds weird. This whole Jaunt is weird, as far as he's concerned, and he's already seen a lot of shit by now. ]

Are you sure that.. Mothman of yours is alright though, being forced into such a shape? It does not exactly sound comfortable.

Well, he's definitely not happy about it, but beyond that it's hard to say.

[She does sound a little worried, though.]

Perhaps we could take a look at it together? Two minds might be able to figure out more than one.

[ Even if he's technologically challenged. But it just means he can look at it from a different angle, okay.. ]

[ .. want to meet up, that's the obvious follow up here, but instead Inigo's voice trails off for a moment. ]

I suppose I would have a hard time finding the place even if you told me where..

Yeah, I'm not sure what to even use as landmarks here.

This sort of world isn't entirely familiar to you either?

[ Because he figured most other people might not have as much trouble with it.. he's already figured out that he's way behind on the times thanks to all the Jaunts he's participated in, so it's hard for him to tell who would or would not know about some kind of technology. ]

It's the sort of thing you'd expect to see in a movie, in my world.

So not real. [ He's at least figured out movies somewhat.. the last Jaunt helped a lot with that too, at least. ]

Did those movies tell you anything useful about the way these places work, though? Perhaps we could use some of that.

[ Inigo's already starting out at zero, so anything at all would help. ]

The one I'm thinking of mostly involved straight-out fighting, but it's been a while since I saw it, so I've probably forgotten a lot. I'll see if I can remember more.

.. well, that does not sound omnious at all considering what may be waiting for us here.

[ Then again, that group of intimidating.. somethings.. sure seems like they're out for a fight, huh. Maybe if someone goes even just a little bit out of line. It doesn't sound like it'd be that weird to imagine. ]

Diplomacy tends not to be flashy enough for movies like this.

Perhaps we should be hoping for the most boring option then.

[ Not that Inigo is all that better at diplomacy or anything that involves human interaction, but.. hey. He tries, okay. ]

If things do get ugly, will you be able to protect yourself? You can always ask for my help.

Probably, yeah.

[Minako does not consider herself an expert on diplomacy by any means, but she did max all her social links acquit herself reasonably well dealing with some of the pricklier personalities back home.]

I think I'll be okay, but I will definitely keep you in mind if things start getting ugly.

[She's not sure he'll take this at all seriously, but...]

The same goes for you - if you want my help sometime, I'll be there.

[Hopefully she'll have an idea of where everything is by then.]

[ Rather than taking it seriously or not, it's more a problem of Inigo being absolutely terrible when it comes to accepting help. Ever. At least help that goes beyond a surface level, but he supposes there's one thing he could use that isn't too much to ask for-- ]

If anything pops up that I don't understand.. technologically-wise, I mean. If that happens, I might shoot you a mental message, if you truly don't mind.

[ Since admitting he's technologically challenged feels much more like stating a fact rather than admitting a weakness. And the latter is just a no-go zone for him. ]

[Something they have in common, although Minako had gotten a lot better at it while she was in SEES. Of course, even with that experience, she's still far more used to being the helper than the help-ee.]

[On the other hand, she's a lot better about admitting her own weaknesses.]

Not at all! I mean, I'm not the best with technology, either, but if I can help out at all, I'm glad to do it.

...Although come to think of it, it might be a good idea to make a running list of people who are better with technology like this and also willing to help people who aren't. Or maybe a list of who's-good-at-what in general, once we get back to Liminal Space.

Especially the technological aspect of it might come in handy.. It does seem as if we come across a lot of Jaunts where it plays some sort of role.

[ Also known as "regular modern day", Inigo.. just because you're way behind on the times.. ]

And I have seen a lot more people who also have no clue what a.. er.. computer is, for example. [ His dreaded arch nemesis since an earlier Jaunt.. ]
