[For anyone who met Mai during the Jaunt, she's certainly entirely different now--but then again, that's why she's doing this in the first place, despite being terrified of bothering people in this way. So after a brief pause, she rallies her courage.]

...My name is Mai--um, for the people I didn't know, and I... I was really different in that Jaunt b-but... I just wanted to say that I'm really really sorry!

[There's no visual here--she doesn't have the capability--but even so, it's pretty obvious to anyone who knows her that she's bowing her head here in her shame and apology.]

I did some truly terrible things to everyone, and I...I was really-- [A pause.] Just... I'm very sorry. That's... that's all.

Oh-- um. Near-san... [...what does she even say to him? She's really not sure. After a moment, a really awkward pause, she manages a fumbled thought--] Can we...talk?

[For those who would rather go the action route, Mai is not hard to find; she's tucked against a penny slots machine, arms wrapped around her knees, chin resting on them and eyes downcast. Seems this Jaunt took quite a lot out of her as well, but then again, dying isn't fun for anyone.

There are people she knows she needs to find and check on, but... well, she needs just a moment longer.]

[ Chizuru agrees with it, honestly. She found out her family wasn't her family back home, after all - thanks, Koudou - but it didn't make him feel any less like her father when it came down to it.

Family is a lot less about who you're related to and a lot more about who you feel at home with. The Shinsengumi taught her as much. So, in that sense.. ]

Yes, you're right. [ She nods. ] In that sense, Mai-san definitely feels like family to me too.

[There's a pause as she processes that, and then she smiles brightly in response. If Chizuru says so, then...]

Oh...! That makes me really happy, Chizuru-san! [At least she's easily pleased...but quite frankly, Chizuru feeling the same way makes her feel like maybe all of this has happened for a reason. If nothing else, she has...more of a family now.]

Chizuru-san also feels like very important family to me!

[Uwoooh...now they are true protag pals. She blinks at that, and then carefully tucks a strand of hair behind her ear, sheepish but happy. Chizuru is her otome protag senpai, but...]

If... if that's really okay, then... I'd be happy to. Thank you very much, Chizuru-chan!

[Even just saying it like that makes her happy, truly these two are easily pleased.

But with that massive honorifics hurdle crossed....we can make progress..... maybe.]

This makes me really happy... I feel like I've gotten chances here that I wouldn't have gotten back home. [because she was dead, naturally-- no okay because CHIZURU IS AMAZING.]

Hm? Like what kind of chances? [ Not like Chizuru can't guess some, and not like she can't think of some she would name for herself, but honestly.. she just wants to hear Mai talk about it. Recalling good memories, happily talking about those times-- isn't that how people can keep themselves going? ]

Like... meeting Chizuru-chan, and Hijikata-san. And Levi-san and Tim-san and everyone. And...getting to talk to Ukyo-san more, even if he's not here anymore.

And seeing so many places... they were beautiful, even if they were a little scary...!

[Oh, she went off on a tangent there... she pauses, before shaking her head, blushing slightly.]

I just...know that it's very amazing. I'd never get these chances back home.

[ No, this tangent is exactly what Chizuru wanted!! She just wants to see Mai happily babbling on, since Mai just deserves it.. Mai deserves everything good in this world, and Chizuru is going to make absolutely sure she gets it, okay.

Even if it's just in small ways like these. ]

I agree.. they're very amazing.

No matter how many sad things might happen.. I don't think I'd want to have to forget the happy memories too along with those if I'd want to get rid of the sad ones.

That's right... I don't want to ever forget anything ever again. The happy memories, the sad memories....everything.

[she nods to herself, determined.]

So... it'll be okay. I know that we can handle anything, if it's all together, and...together we'll make all sorts of memories...! Everything that we can possibly think of!

[and then she won't feel quite so empty when she thinks of her old, missing memories. It's a win.]
