[Hope you're all enjoying your sudden, Liminal Space-filled existences, Travelers. Either way, there's suddenly going to be a very tentative, very timid psychic broadcast.]
Um... excuse me...
[For anyone who met Mai during the Jaunt, she's certainly entirely different now--but then again, that's why she's doing this in the first place, despite being terrified of bothering people in this way. So after a brief pause, she rallies her courage.]
...My name is Mai--um, for the people I didn't know, and I... I was really different in that Jaunt b-but... I just wanted to say that I'm really really sorry!
[There's no visual here--she doesn't have the capability--but even so, it's pretty obvious to anyone who knows her that she's bowing her head here in her shame and apology.]
I did some truly terrible things to everyone, and I...I was really-- [A pause.] Just... I'm very sorry. That's... that's all.
Oh-- um. Near-san... [...what does she even say to him? She's really not sure. After a moment, a really awkward pause, she manages a fumbled thought--] Can we...talk?
[For those who would rather go the action route, Mai is not hard to find; she's tucked against a penny slots machine, arms wrapped around her knees, chin resting on them and eyes downcast. Seems this Jaunt took quite a lot out of her as well, but then again, dying isn't fun for anyone.
There are people she knows she needs to find and check on, but... well, she needs just a moment longer.]

Purpose was deeply, deeply ingrained in us, it’s still a little difficult for me to… to not think with it in mind.
[ and worry for the System, with their failure to destroy the Ports and seal the Cryptos away again. Ambrose knows it’s just the code, the lingering emotions of someone not really him, but he can’t shake it. not yet. ]
But now I know why I didn’t see you. I was a Miner to start – a glitchy one, there’d been a-an incident – and then I ended up with SHIRO’s group before… getting corrupted.

[Mai had admittedly only heard about the stirrings and rumors when it was already too late for her to do anything about them--for the better, really, if her friends were in that group.]
Ambrose-san, you were...corrupted... [She pauses, biting her lip.] We were all so...fragile in that Jaunt. Or at least, that's what it feels like...doesn't it?

Yes, it... I was error-prone, it was a little like how I was before I got my brain back. That's difficult to proce- to... okay, yeah, process.
[ there's a crooked little smile because the language of the Jaunt carries different meanings but the same message outside it. they'll probably all be coping for a while.]
It reminded me of a lot of things I didn't want to think about.

[She shakes her head at that, gently patting his hand.]
I'm sorry that it brought up bad memories. Um.... if you want to talk about them, then--I'll listen. But if not then...
Is it okay if we just stay like this for awhile too?
[Just...together.]

[ he's not at all, he stays right there and looks at her, smiling softly. ]
I think I'd like that, actually. We... we probably need some time. [and he considers for a few moments before peering over at her. ] I'm... almost never sure how to ask this. Would you like a hug?
no subject
...I like that sort of question. [She nods, shyly but happily.] And... I would love a hug, Ambrose-san.
[She's never been huge on physical affection, but from him, a hug is comforting, like getting reassurance from a family member. So she opens her arms to him, reaching for just that comfort.]

[ he’d somehow become the designated hugger in the queen’s retinue the one the princesses would go to if they needed a touch of reassurance and their parents weren’t available… or were the inspiration behind the need for comfort. The memory hurts a little but now he can smile, glad to continue fulfilling that role. ]

Ambrose has been there for a long time, and she doubts Ambrose will ever leave them, at least--not until they find a way to get them all back to their proper homes.
So she relaxes into his arms, wrapping her own around him in turn, and buries her face into his shoulder.
For now, this is fine. It's warm, and it's as close to home as she's going to get.]
