How do you teach someone that came with you from a world we visited to be able to access the network?

Also: If in the future anyone notices that I am infiltrated and Saffron [and here comes a brief succession of full-sensory depictions of the girl in her four different forms] is not and they can do so, please de-infiltrate me.

Oh, no, did she have to spend a Jaunt alone? Of course, if I'm myself, I'll be glad to bring you back to yourself. And I could keep her company myself, too, if you'd rather I save that skill for an emergency, or if you seem particularly important to the Jaunt.

She did. [And he is probably more freaked out about that than Saffron was. Though she certainly wasn't happy. At least she didn't have to starve, as the wilderness room provides anything she needed.

Though if Lyall isn't infiltrated and on the right side of the jaunt-walkabout line...] If you need it for someone else and can get to her yourself, that works, too. I just don't want her to be alone and unable to contact people again. [He'll need to learn how to bridge the jaunt-walkabout divide, too. But that's something that he'll want to learn somewhere down the line. Not immediately now.

Of course, no, that isn't good for her at all. We'll see how it goes, but either way, Saffron will be taken care of. We'll find some other delegates, as well, in case I'm infiltrated, too.

You should ask Ryo and Hajime about getting her on the network. They've managed it. I don't have any companions like that to link over, or I'd try to work it out myself.

[That is a good point. He hadn't thought of Ryo and Hajime, he thinks he's even spoken to Ryo before... Or at least seen him around the network.]

I'll ask Gale and Tick-Tock. [Pack. Always the obvious go-to.] And Tachibana and Casper.

Good, Gale has the same ability I do to be infiltrated but still remember who we are, I think that lessens the likelihood of a full infiltration. Between us and the rest of the pack, there will always be someone there for Saffron.

[Knowing the Arcana they'll listen and they'll all be fully infiltrated on the other side of the divide next time, but... no. He's not going to think that. There's no point in worrying about things that might or might not happen some time in the future.]

Perhaps I can see about teaching a few of the others about pulling someone out of an infiltration, as well. I think Gale is probably far enough along that he could do it, if he doesn't know how already, and the colonel probably isn't far off, either.

Ah. Hmm. Perhaps. It requires a lot of skill with the psychic network. You start with sharing memories with others, and move on through gaining knowledge of the Jaunt world and being able to pull other people out of infiltrations, before you get there.

I know how to share memories.

How do you gain knowledge of jaunt worlds? [That sounds quite useful in general. It might have made it easier to understand what that poison spray in Artwarts was.]

Well, you need to be able to access the network, and others on it, at a deeper level. So you know how you can share a memory with someone? You need to be able to get a memory from someone else, too, or listen to their surface thoughts-- with their permission, of course, and I believe the various levels of defense most everyone learns can keep you out, but it's still a thing that we can do.

Can I try that on you?

Oh, certainly. You all in the pack probably have a standing permission to get in my head when you need to, you're halfway there already as it is.

[It sounds like a reasonable thought that that might help, and he also likes spending time with pack. Especially when said pack was gone for so long.]

[And there he is, in wolf form since it's Laugh's space and that usually feels more appropriate. He wags his tail at Laughs in greeting.]

He appreciates anyone in wolf form, really. Pack in wolf form is the best. He trots over to lick Lyall's muzzle in greeting.]

What would you do to get into my head?

[Lyall nuzzles him back fondly.]

I'd think about what you might be thinking, and reach out like I wanted to talk to you. Except I'd be listening, not talking.

Would you try to be stealthy?

[Maybe that's what he did wrong.]

Since I wouldn't be trying to do it without permission, no, not really. I fully expect anyone who I was trying to listen in on would be aware of it-- the various mental protections we can learn also protect against it.

[Guess what he's thinking, Laughs?]

[He drops out of Lyall's thoughts again with that statement. So stealth really was the issue...]

Oh good. I expect the proximity helped, and the trying to hide what you were doing got in your way.

[He's not even going to suggest that Laughs might learn to be more sneaky about it with practice. He'd rather Laughs not learn to be sneaky, period, much less with barging into other people's thoughts.]

But also, thank-you nuzzles are a go.] I'll work on doing it from further away. [And then over time, distance shouldn't make a difference any more.]
