Yeah, but that doesn’t mean you can just catch a disease from any old creature, right? That’s why diseases that jump from animals to humans are such a big deal.

Not usually, but I've seen something similar before. Our world has a 'disease' that can be transmitted to any living thing. This seems more magical in nature than biological, which means the species divide might mean nothing to it.

It’s based off your emotions, right? And people are so scared of it that they make it bad and that scares them more, which makes it worse. Either that or it really is a weaponized version.

Some people can sort of control it, but others just get continually worse.

Oh for gods' sake, how could they bloody not realize that?! There's plenty of technology they have that could easily give them the proper observational data to determine a course to at least reduce the worst of it. How did they ever manage to get off their planet in the first place?
