Man, the Trumps sure know how to throw a welcome-back party. Too bad there's probably no deaf, dumb and blind kids around, I hear they play a mean pinball.

So. That was an unpleasant little side quest, don't recommend it, don't wanna talk about it. How far along are we from the Grid? What'd I miss?

Also, FYI, as soon as I can work out how I'm willing to make lightcycles for anyone who missed out. Still a work in progress, though, so don't all come running at once.

Man. The Grid was a coupla Jaunts back now. But ... y'know, I like your plan.

I think it's a good plan and I should feel good. Glad to hear someone agrees.

Come to think of it, I'm hella behind on what actually happened on the Grid itself, other than I think I said hi to a Trump. I missed literally all the excitement.

...How did you manage that? Seriously. Sayin' hi to SAGE was about the last thing we did there. Got him outta stasis 'n then everything glitched out. Not that it hadn't already, but... yeah.

I spent most of it holed up in some old armory or something that I don't think anyone else ever got to? And believe me, the irony of hanging out in an isolated warehouse is not lost on me, you'd think I get enough of that at home. No idea there was much of anything else going on until the communications system went back up, and then it didn't seem worth the risk of actually leaving, what with the monster horde and all.

[The irony's lost on him, though.]

Well. Damn. We had the Variables 'n the original Cryptos in stasis bein' unearthed, Automata everywhere and wreckin' the Miner base, a bunch of Miners going off and starting a rebellion... not that I was followin' most of what they were doing over there. First I knew was when they started showin' up in yellow lights. The whole thing was just ... one big mess. You were probably in the best place with everythin' going on.

[That would be why she explained it a little.]

I did wonder what was up with the sudden yellow. Original Cryptos, though? Do tell. Nobody mentioned we were recruiting, either.

You...? Ah. Right. Makes sense. [He laughs. As natural as it might have felt for him at the end, he's still aware of just how unusual their situation'd been...] Yeah, me 'n - three others, I think, converted. Leo offered three of us the choice when we were lookin' around in the archives, 'n KALI fixed the last one up and brought him over.

...Heh. Sorry I missed you down there.

It's all good, considering I was barely around for the damn thing. And even then I felt more useful than frickin' Doki. [She's just... not going to think about the fact that the Crypto thing maybe kinda sorta pinged with the Caretaker thing. She's not ready to deal with that yet.]

Guess I'll have to check for surprise tattoos later, but I doubt it. The kind of guy who'd set up the Crypto thing would be a way better fit for my brother than me, and I at least know I didn't bother during Doki.

[She didn't bother with much of anything during Doki. Yes thank you Trumps she really wanted to revisit her cranky foster kid days. Not.]

And then... what, Hell and magical girls between the Grid and now? The Trumps sure know how to pick 'em, don't they. How'd those go?

Purgatory, yeah. City on the edge of Hell. That was the next one.

[Kanji sighs.] We... we failed it. Felt like we were chasin' shadows at the end. [Not for lack of running around and trying on his part, but... what else could he do at the end?]

Ugh. Coulda ended up a lot worse, but ... still a goddamn mess. And I ... don't even wanna think about how things are down there now. [His mental voice is a spot subdued, but picks up as he goes on.]

But the next one after that was basically somethin' outta a magical girl story, right. All... cool magic and transformations and fighting monsters. There was a competition and a load of challenges: I was infiltratin' that one, but came pretty close to winning the big prize. Lot of us did pretty good.

...Heh. High Priestess thought so too from what I've seen.

...oof. That one must've stung. At least it wasn't for lack of trying? I mean, I know that doesn't make up for everything, but.

The other one sounds pretty cool, though. Too bad I missed it, but God knows what it would've given me. [~~Champion of Artifacts, Claudia, who are you kidding.~~] Naturally there was a Trump around doing their Trump thing.

Heh. Did ya hear how many of 'em there were on the Grid? But yeah. There was. ...No-one's worked out who she was yet as far as I know.

And we did our best. I'm fine knowin' that. We've just gotta keep going on and doing what we can.

...There was more than one on the Grid? [Okay, she's gathered that two showing up isn't unprecedented, but still. She went missing right after the jaunt and didn't really get a chance to catch up.]

There were three of 'em down there, Hermit, Magician and Devil, and another one screwin' with folks from Liminal Space.

Magician was ROSE, the Miner boss. Though I heard that no-one called her out until pretty late on... The Devil was in charge of the Automata.
... And [with a slight mental sigh, KAN-3's impulses jumping into his mind-] yeah. You already know about SAGE. He's the Hermit. Sounds like he was doin' shit the others didn't like, so they decided to trap him in there.

...holy mother of God, none of that sounds like a good plan. Of course Devil would have a hand in the corruption agent, though, that only stands to reason.

What could he possibly have been up to that was that bad, though? I mean, if we're talking Hermit his ultimate goal was probably to be left alone, they probably didn't have to go to all that trouble to trap him there. If it were me, that'd only piss me off enough to get involved again.

Hell if I know. I dunno if anyone does.

When I talked to him, he told me it was "to find his own way," and that it was "not unrelated" to the three Trumps he knew were dead at the time, but I couldn't get anything more out of him.

[And she probably could have interjected that with a bit more grace. Whoops.]

Still the four total who're dead, right? I was around for Hellmart, so I caught that memo, at least.

Yeah... I guess the last one died after he left. I'm not sure what order they died in, though, and there was only so much I could ask him.

Hey, it's still more than we knew before. Give it enough time and we'll be able to figure out the rest.
