[Is it possibly for a mental voice to sound giddy? Because there's a distinct giddy tinge to By's thoughts, for all that his words come out with his normal, lazy, lightly Russian-accented drawl.]

Byerly Vorrutyer here. We're on Earth, pre-spaceflight, although someone who isn't me will need to get a better read on the actual date and location. Linguistically, it's a hodgepodge. I can hear archaic Russian, a whole host of Asiatic and Romance languages, and something else I can't quite place.

If you can "hear" this, check in. We need to know who we've got to work with.

From what I've been able to gather, walking around and listening, I think the Caliphate and the Prussians are rivals, so if I'm taking the latter, someone really should infiltrate the former.

Sounds like a good idea; if anything's going to blow up spectacularly, it'll probably be between them. Not sure yet how the Asian side of things play into all this, but judging from the brat that Naoto-kun is acting like, I'm guessing not all that important.

Likely not, but you can never tell what will happen with wild card elements like that. [He should know, having been one on occasion and having suffered through them even more.] So it's just as well you're with them.

In that spirit, we ideally want some of our people with each of the powers, if possible. But certainly the Caliphate.

Mmm... perhaps we could prevail upon Malik? He seems to know their language if nothing else. Not that truly matters, seeming as everything is translated for us anyway, but it can't hurt.

If he's willing to go for it, he sounds like the best bet.
