I don't think you'd be the first to have that particular impression shattered.

[ He sounds neutral enough, but ...he's been paying attention, and that idea alternately thrills and terrifies. What would he say, exactly, if the same thing happened to him? 'Sorry I failed you, but don't worry, Mother made sure to instill plenty of guilt'?
