So, uh, unrelated to all that grant stuff [ACADEMIA, he does not understand you] - this is the first place we've been in a while with any sort of tech, it might be worthwhile to grab more portable stuff - flashlights, two-way radios, stuff like that. And lots of batteries.

[99% of you are barbarians to him, okay] Flashlights make light, but without flame, so you don't have to worry about setting anything on fire. Radios let you talk to other people across distances - like this, but not in our heads.

[To be fair it's been a long time since high school physics, so Toshi would be hard-pressed to actually explain the details of how electricity works, but he does realize that's kind of... a vast oversimplification at best. But whatever, he'll run with it]

Something like that. Batteries are like... lightning stored in little containers, so you can use them without having to hook up to anything.
