[ okay so he's pretty well known to just drive you people up a wall in telepathic conversation but in rare instances he can be serious.

And one thing the veterans, at least, know? He never starts open conversations unless he's serious and with something worth hearing. And he only says things worth hearing when he finds it dangerous. ]

Right, so, I think we might suddenly have a really big problem. Like, really big.

[ yeah he means it literally concerning it physically as much as simply metaphorically. ]

Has anyone heard of anyone around the ships talking about something called "the Grasper"?

I could use another word, but that won't change what it probably is.

[If it were a ship, he figures the question would've been about a ship and not a general something.

Besides, the timing is suspect - ships don't usually cause stampedes.]

You ever dealt with something like this before? [ because he's never been on anything but maybe a fishing boat in his life, nevermind out in the deeper waters. ]

Sea monsters in particular? I can't say I have. But 'shoot it in the soft bits' tends to be a fairly universal solution.

Well, how lucky for us we don't have to make a decision here, since there's no where to run to on these ships.

[ he's being sarcastic of course, but not in an attacking way of the suggestions given. it's more along the lines of... awesome, this is actually real life for us. ]

Not literally, of course, but I've heard it said that ships can also go away very fast when there's trouble at their metaphorical heels.

[He's used to that...tone, for lack of a better word. He's heard it at least once every time another dragon, demon, or less identifiable horror has turned up.

...That's a lot of times.]

Think the captains are already well-believers in this monster we have coming for a dinner date?

Hard to say. Sailors are superstitious by nature, but if this thing's some kind of mermaid nightmare [yes, he listens in too], they may not have heard of it.

Or, just as likely, they know it by some other name, and we need to figure out which one if we want to put them on alert.

They are? Why? [ not to get off topic per say but this is an interesting thing he'd like to hear about sailors now. ]

If I had to guess, I'd say it's because they spend so much of their lives at the whims of the ocean. Throw in a bit of superstition, and it makes it feel like you might have some control.

Of course, sometimes it really is ocean demons.

Ah, don't go making this sailing the seas on a stuffy and cramped boat actually sound exciting to me; I might want to stay if we don't get swallowed by this thing.

You weren't already thrilled by the prospect of storms, pirates, and nameless horrors rising from the depths of the abyss? For shame.

Well, if they were put all together in one and the storm is going to tip the ship over, I guess I can give it more credit. [ but nothing tops ocean demons... ]

I've heard at least a few of the nameless horrors out there can summon storms, so you're bound to get at least two out of three.
