Malik Greatly Disapproves. Again.

[It's been a while since Malik's spoken up on the network but this is something drastic to him and it needs addressing.]

It has been recently brought to my attention that the education system of modern times is sorely lacking in a number of regards.

I was told that beyond the basics of reading and mathematics anything else was not important and was not even taught, and this desperately needs to be rectified.

We may be learning magic and other such things from our overlays, but there are areas that are horrifically left by the wayside in this arms race we have entered in to.

I may not know much about history as it is from most of your perspectives but there has to be educators among us or at least those who will be willing to step up and help the children among us not return home uneducated louts who respond to the idea of mathematics or reading with "why should I care?" or "it is too difficult".

Ok, that was a slight exaggeration on my part- they do teach other stuff, it's just math and reading that's stressed. A lot. ...A whole lot. [like school districts shut down if they dare focus on other shit more a lot]

Also I didn't say either of those things. [the... first was kind of implied but.] I don't mind learning stuff, it's just. Not gonna pick up a math book when I'm bored or anything.

Mathematics and language are the fundamentals of humanity, without math we cannot understand the world around us.

I am reading the English dictionary because I am bored and it is a language I am poor with, why not learn mathematics?

Well Donald Duck didn't teach my math classes.

I'm going to fucking find a copy of Donald Duck in Mathemagic Land in the boat stores and then make you watch it.

That's a little older than Phillip is, Thorne, I'm afraid. It may not... actually be something he'll enjoy. I recall it being a bit dated, if we're thinking about the same show.

We might try to find something from, say, the Animaniacs about math, though. That might be more engaging for the younger crowd. There has to be something in that show's run about it.

I still enjoy Animaniacs, Phillip, and I'm in my thirties. But if you like educational cartoons from the fifties, more power to you.

...I've never seen Animaniacs either. [except for like the one time they showed the state song in third grade.]

[It's all right, Phillip, he knows how that is. He's much more used to dealing with teenagers than middle school kids, honestly!]

I'll see if I can't remember some of it well enough to recreate a video sometime... a lot of it's silly, but I know they have a lot of history and cultural education in it. I just can't remember if there's any about math, off the top of my head.

...I miss Google, sometimes. [that would make this easier.]

... I still like it. But admittedly I'm kinda weird.

Also, dang, Animaniacs. I haven't seen that show since I was little.

Oh, I didn't say I didn't enjoy it to some extent, but I can still recognize it for what it is, which is very much one of Disney's fifties cartoons. I think it's the same narrator they used for all the Goofy cartoons, even.

I was a little older than you when it was running, but it has a lot of appeal for all ages, I think.

Ducks are terrible teachers... unless it is swimming, then they are not the worst out there.

Oh no, the duck in question isn't teaching. He's learning why math is important and interesting and the idea is that you're supposed to learn with him. Do you remember films from when we were in Brooklyn? It's a film.

Vaguely, yes. I do not have the memory of some here but... why do you need a duck to demonstrate that math is the foundation of things?

Because they wanted to encourage children to get interested in mathematics and children already liked watching films with Donald Duck in them. Thus making a short film where Donald learns why math is important.

Why can scholars not do that? It is their job to help people understand why things like thay are important.

Teachers also try to do that. But the people who make Donald Duck films also really wanted to make one about mathematics.
