Open (early week 2)

So. Two things, good news and a serious question.

Good news first; Drizzt is out of jail and safely with his father and I. Nobody got injured and it all went pretty well all said and done.

And the serious question:

[Wait for it.]

....does anybody know how to perform a wedding?

Next week. Ish. Or sooner?
professorwolf: (huh)

Oh dear. Well. You've gotten yourself into quite an undertaking, if you want to do this in the local style. Weddings here... are rather large affairs. For a long-lived race, celebrations are equally... long. The ceremony takes up a good portion of a day, and festivities continue for most of a week.

And you're expected to invite quite a lot of people.

You'd be surprised, actually. A lot of people would come just for the free food and festivities. The wealthy and political would come for a chance to be seen in their finery. Some people would just find it entertaining or even sweet.

Still, we don't have to follow the local customs if we don't want to. We aren't local, and excuses can be made.

... er, why exactly do you need to get married, anyway? You don't sound as if you are excited and in love, no offense.
professorwolf: (sheepish)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2016-09-25 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
This seems like an awfully convoluted way to get someone out of jail. But if it was the only way... well. If you need help with anything, I'm available. I'm picking up an apprenticeship at one of the clockwork makers about, but that isn't exactly a full time position.

Mmm. Perhaps not directly counterfitting money. Instead, we can create a few things in liminal that will sell well here, something expensive and moderately useless like artwork or fancy clothing, and use the proceeds from that? Then we're not quite as likely to affect the economy here.

And I might regret it, but I won't retract the offer. I used to run a werewolf pack, and a classroom. I think I can manage helping to organize a wedding. I'm actually quite good with fine clothes and invitations and such.

My father is not used to anything such as this world, and Elphaba had to do the talking. And we needed a reason for her to do the talking instead of my father. So she's now my mother as far as the locals are concerned.

... It is awfully convoluted, but I am also now free. I cannot argue that it wasn't convincing enough.

I am glad to hear you're out and about again. I'm surprised they didn't simply let us post bail, but if that isn't how things are done here these days... ah well.

[personal profile] naturaltwohands 2016-09-28 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I was only being held under suspicion, so I only needed parents to be released to.

[There's a sigh.]

If only I knew why I appear so much younger than my true age!
professorwolf: (curious)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2016-09-29 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you mean, younger? How old are you?
naturaltwohands: (oh deer)

[personal profile] naturaltwohands 2016-09-29 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I am nearly seventy. Young by elven standards, but older than I appear now.
professorwolf: (Default)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2016-10-04 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
For these elves, that would in fact be very young. How long do your people live?
naturaltwohands: (lots of hair)

[personal profile] naturaltwohands 2016-10-05 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not truly know, as drow do not generally get a chance to live out their natural lifespans. Seven or eight centuries would not be out of the question if we are like our surface cousins.
professorwolf: (sheepish)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2016-10-08 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, these elves live between five and six centuries, themselves, though seventy or thereabouts is still an adolescent. Er. For an even longer-lived race, I'm surprised you look as old as you do outside the Jaunt.
naturaltwohands: (anyone get that license plate)

Also his icons lie and he normally looks about 17 in human years. But comic book ages lmao.

[personal profile] naturaltwohands 2016-10-08 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[A dreadfully long pause. Drizzt wants to lie about it, but he also knows Zak is telling people the truth. So he tells the truth. Grudgingly.]

Drow are considered child until they are 100 in age, but I certainly look older than I do now.

[He's grumbling, but gently so. Zak was far too happy that he's still a child for him to be properly mad about being called what he is. ... For now.]

INTERRUPTING SMOL

[personal profile] happyhalloween 2016-10-08 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Uu. I understand. I was born twenty-one years ago but then I died when I was nine so I still look little.

[Maria, you still act like a kid all the time. Seriously. Maybe you're acting like you're ten now instead of like you're six, but still.]
naturaltwohands: (more back watching)

smol why

[personal profile] naturaltwohands 2016-10-08 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[Drizzt is line facing in real life. Not that he can be seen. Oh goddess, now more than one person is talking about this. How many are listening in??

But Maria is a child and--crap. He's doing the same thing he'd be afraid of people doing to him.
]

... That is even worse than my own... situation. My deepest sympathies.

[personal profile] happyhalloween 2016-10-21 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Uu. It didn't used to bother me until I started traveling.
naturaltwohands: (not impressed)

[personal profile] naturaltwohands 2016-10-21 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see why it would bother you now.

[She is also adorable so it's hard to be completely upset for long. Besides, she understands. He still can't help but gripe a bit to a sympathetic voice.]

I was not again considered as a child instead of an adult, like I am customarily considered, until this Jaunt, when Father reminded me that in the eyes of our people, and indeed in the eyes of all elves, I am still seen as such. The current youth of my form just makes the distinction easier for others outside of our race to notice.

I've never been considered an adult. Even at the Expo I only got as big as a high school kid.
naturaltwohands: (serious face)

[personal profile] naturaltwohands 2016-11-30 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Even with his griping, Drizzt is listening keenly to her side of it. He's not sure how old someone is in high school, but he can assume it's the age of an older human child. At least he doesn't try to sell her about the benefits of staying a child, knowing far better than to do that.]

Your lot is more difficult than mine. At least I will be considered an adult sometime in my second century of life. Tell me, do you wish to grow up?
happyhalloween: (=:3)

[personal profile] happyhalloween 2016-11-30 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a long moment.]

Yes. At least as big as Beatrice. She's a thousand years, but her body's nineteen.
naturaltwohands: (serious moment)

[personal profile] naturaltwohands 2016-12-02 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
And there is no way to allow you to age?

[Drizzt has to feel sorry for the girl. Truly.]

... not that I know of.
