Backdated: Two for the price of one psychic posts [Jaunt]

[Lupa's first broadcast on the psychic network happens a couple hours after this event. He sounds worried, but calm when he speaks up.]

Has anyone had contact with Raidou in the past few hours? I lost track of his presence a couple hours ago, and a search for his will brought up nothing just now. I'm becoming concerned.

[Lupa's second broadcast comes several days later, a little into the start of Week 3. He sounds very worried, tone clipped with barely reigned in emotion.]

Raidou is still missing, and now that my dreamcatcher has refilled, I used my powers over will to seek direction. I'm being guided towards using a skill that should take me to the Walkabout, if I understand it correctly. I haven't used it before, and there is much happening here but... to my knowledge Raidou is without backup over there, if he did somehow transfer over, as I now suspect. I can't leave a comrade alone without backup, especially when everyone here has plenty of support.

[Touch of guilt there, because he doesn't want to leave everyone here without his support either, but he can't be in two places at once.]

I don't believe I'll have a way of contacting anyone once I go over, so I'm sending notice now.

Well, if we know one exists this time...even if we don't, he could be stuck in Arcanaspace having awkward conversations with Emperor or someone. He might need backup there too.

Oh, you know what, though, I should be able to connect over to the other side psychically. I'm not sure how long I can keep it open, but I can check on Raidou or let you check in once you're over there.

Lyall reported that it was Sarmatia, earlier. I trust his word on the matter.

[One can almost feel Lupa's interest increase.]

That's a useful skill. I've heard of it in passing before but until now never thought I would require it. Is it possible to be taught? Backup never hurts a situation where skills are concerned.

Naoki-kun taught me, so I should definitely be able to teach you! Let me just think back, this was way back during the Arcana meetings, and I haven't had a chance to use it until now...

I'm happy to wait until you've gotten your memories sorted.

[And he is, sitting patiently until Rise contacts him again.]

[There's a brief blast of psychic cursing here for a moment. The first time they've had a chance to investigate on the same side as each other... and this happens?

I'm sorry, Kanji. But I know you're a skilled leader in your own right, and your comrades from home are here to help you. Even if it collapses into fighting, perhaps especially if it does, I trust that you will overcome all obstacles and succeed in your aims.

[After a pause, softer.] Keep watch over Gale for me? I don't know how to do so myself without raising suspicion.

[That... might be another reason leaving has appeal. It's hard to be near Gale but not able to be with Gale.]

I haven't, but I still have many concerns about Malik. Watch him closely. Unfortunately I can't imagine him being bonded with someone with such ill intent and not at least being aware and condoning it. There isn't anything I can do, however, without potentially exposing the Travelers, so it's for the best that I don't try to act in that regard.

[And Lupa does find that frustrating, for all that he's sure it's true. He's made too many mistakes while investigating in that regard to go forward with what he wants to do in the situation.]

Do you want to know how to bridge the divide? If you can find people using the network that's half the work done already. [The other half gets into stuff Naoki won't teach anyone, which is the main reason he's locked this down.]

I would like to learn, if I can. I've been able to locate people since I arrived--we were able to do something similar at home, and it changed slightly after we got here, but not enough to become unusable. What's the other half?

The other half... is being able to pry into people's private conversations, which is why I'm not exactly advertising lessons. If people want to learn that bit they can figure it out themselves.

Bridging the gap is more outright useful, though, so I'm willing to explain it to people I trust. I already taught Rise, back when I got through from the conversation space. [And it goes without saying that he trusts Lupa with this.]

I... think I might have actually stumbled onto that when I was trying to contact the other side simply through willpower earlier.

It's certainly easy to stumble into.

Instead of looking for a particular person, look for the barrier between you and the rest of the network. I didn't really notice it the first time, I just figured I could try to show everyone what I was seeing as I was seeing it, but during the Floor fiasco it was a little more obvious.

Once you find it, push through until you make contact. It only works for a few minutes at a time, but it's better than nothing.

A barrier... That makes sense. Does this barrier separate groups like the Marked and unmarked were separated during our long stay in Liminal before?

[The other option that immediately comes to mind is a barrier around each individual person that selectively allows some things through but not others.]

Not exactly like that one, since communicating across it wasn't any trouble. Did you try to get in touch with anyone while they were in their conversation space, or while you were there yourself? It's more like that.

Or... I don't know if you heard about Minako-san accidentally tying herself to a separate Liminal Space in Newport, but she wasn't on the network during that time either. I think she probably hooked herself up to a separate network too, but there was no one else on it.

I attempted to open a portal, but it failed.

And I wasn't myself at the time, so no, I missed the incident. That's interesting, though.

[Lupa takes some time to consider what he knows so far. The wall is more complete than the one during that time in Liminal, spanning both physical and mental, and it can be as small as to cut off only one person, but also expansive enough to cut off a group. Communication within is allowed, but not without. Perhaps, more like a dungeon...

[That said, Lupa pushes against what he thinks is the barrier trying to get through.] Hello? Can you hear me?

[If it worked, would Naoki be able to hear as well?] Naoki?

You can't patch more than yourself through. We had to do a lot of juggling to let Malik-san talk to Altair-san during the Floor mess. [If there's a way to patch more than one person across the barrier, Naoki's determined to find it.] But if you found the barrier, that's a good start.

So it's a matter of gathering the strength to push through then.

Perhaps having a target might help, at least at first.

[With that in mind, Lupa attempts to contact Raidou]

Not when he left me. But those li'l burger robots we were fightin' kept callin' in reinforcements. He mighta ran into some more after, maybe.

Hm. Concerning. Given that I can't locate him... pursuit sounds likely. It might be that he's simply found somewhere concealed to recuperate.
