theflyingone: i'm a hero i swear (upshot)

I'm in a horse

[ The current Liminal Space is seen from the eyes of Altaïr, who is standing in the main chamber, the thundering of hooves and storm echoing around him. Luckily for those on the Network, his view does not shake as he keeps a steady balance. He deliberately does not look at the bronze organs, which... move as living organs do. He speaks in his usual serious tones, though he breathes like he's just finished with a run. ]

If this is indeed the Wooden Horse, the next Jaunt will not be a happy one. The Trojan War is not a place any of us want to be. We must be cautious. The lengths people will go to inflict suffering on one another are only limited by the imagination.

When we are taken to the next world, try talking to me on the Network. If you cannot make a portal into Liminal Space, I will find places for us to hide until we are sure of safety in that land.

... it is, ain't it?

I... dunno if that's just talking about history. One of the Arcana last Jaunt was talkin' to me. Said that Chariot's turn might be coming 'sooner than expected.'

Yeah. I think I know someone who's up this time. Anyone got any ideas who else is in this round?

[When this new voice comes over the network, it's... oddly different somehow. It's as if someone is thinking in the written word.]

PIDGE:/NETWORK/CONVERSATION>_ Trojan War? I think we talked about that at the Garrison. Some ancient war where they used a horse to get the soldiers into the walls of the town, right? Well, ok, it's really just a story to tell people to look twice at strange fantastical gifts, but I think I heard they actually found that city, though.

Are these guys really so literal? [The Southern drawl may be familiar to Altaïr, if he remembers much from the walkabout.] I mean, last time we were hangin' around a place, it didn't seem to have nothin' to do with where we ended up. Nary a full moon in sight.

The Trojan War? I'm not familiar with that. Are there any books on it in the library?

[Because he probably has more pressing things to do than explain it all to a space robot.]
helborn: (yeah okay you wanna go?)

Something you know a lot about? The Trojan War, I mean.

[Casper's mental speech is calm, but he doesn't sound overly happy.]

It depends if we're going to be running into gods involved with it or not. If we are... I doubt Ares or Athena will take us getting in the way. Avoid them if you can.

Is that... Pidge-san?

I only have one Greek goddess with me, and I don't think she'll be much help...

That's because we were in the private room, not the main club. I expect it had rather a lot to do with whatever it was the other side was up to.
inventivepaladin: (small smile)

PIDGE:/NETWORK/QUERY>_ Yes? Oh, wait.

[There's a moment, and a slight shift in wording.]

Sorry, I think I'd forgotten how to use the network, and not just project my thoughts.
fridgeninja: (so that's it)

[personal profile] fridgeninja 2017-04-02 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been quite some time.

This is Souji-san. We only spoke once or twice, so I won't be hurt if you don't remember me.
inventivepaladin: (excitable)

[personal profile] inventivepaladin 2017-04-02 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! I think I remember. Grey hair, right? Good to hear from you, Souji.

Yeah, I went wandering around, and I think I went back home for a while, but I'm back now.

If they're around we may not be able to avoid them, they liked to be... personally involved back then.

Whether or not they accept us being around is up to how everyone decides to act.
mightypen: (dude where's my hellhound)

[personal profile] mightypen 2017-04-02 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The greeks weren't that bad, unless you annoyed a god too much anyway.

But yeah, cautions a good thing.
helborn: (even in monochrome land i'll defeat you)

[personal profile] helborn 2017-04-02 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know they liked to be. That's why I said to stay away. You do not want to mess with warrior gods.

... It also depends what kind of situation we pop up in. If it's after the raids on Troy we might be okay. If it's before... it's going to be nasty.
helborn: (i'm at a fancy party pretending i'm cool)

[personal profile] helborn 2017-04-02 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't know about how it went in other worlds, but I can tell you what it was like in mine.

It was a war between the Trojans and the Greeks. Paris of Troy took Helen after he was promised to him. He declared the goddess of love, Aphrodite, to be the fairest over the goddess of wisdom - Athena - or Hera, the goddess of marriage. It went on for about ten years, as the Greeks tried to take her back. Eventually, they built a giant wooden horse and hid inside of it, claiming it to be a peace offering. When the horse was brought inside the city gates, they came out and killed the Trojans.

That's the short version, at least.

Well. At least Olympian infighting is predictable.
photonicfighter: (Dakki upgrade - crouch)

[personal profile] photonicfighter 2017-04-02 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh.

That is a very short version. I wouldn't mind learning the longer version of it. It would probably explain why they picked a giant wooden horse? It's not something arbitrary, is it?

[personal profile] helborn 2017-04-03 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I can tell you in person, if you want! It might be easier with visuals...

And... well, I'm new here, so I don't know if it relates to where we're going to go. I'm not totally sure why a horse? I think it was an offering to... Athena, maybe. It might be because she was a war goddess, and horses were used in battle?

[personal profile] mightypen 2017-04-03 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Any of the gods, trust me. Even Dionysus can pack a whollop when he gets going and Aphrodite is just as powerful if a bit more subtle about it.

If we're even all that near Troy, I doubt we're going to be sent to alter something that big in history.
helborn: (Default)

[personal profile] helborn 2017-04-03 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but this might be a different world, so who knows? ... And I don't really want to piss any god off. I have enough trouble with the ones at home.
mightypen: (Default)

[personal profile] mightypen 2017-04-03 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
The trojans just really liked horses, not much to do with Athena because they're Posideon's invention.

Aphrodite made Paris fall in love with the 'fairest mortal' who was Helen, but she was already married to the King of Sparta. That went about as well as you expect when he kidnapped her back to Troy. The Spartans got the other greeks to form a giant army to get her back.

The gods also split up over which side they were backing, but the two big ones were kinda Posideon against Athena.

...sorry, this is kinda something I grew up learning about.
helborn: (i'm at a fancy party pretending i'm cool)

[personal profile] helborn 2017-04-03 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I knew that horses were Poseidon's thing, but I thought it might be because of the war angle. And yeah, that's kind of how it went, as far as I know. I'm not a hundred percent sure how it actually went down. Aiden would know more than I do, but she's not here.

Wasn't Poseidon's huge thing against the Greek army because they killed one of his kids? I think I remember reading that.

... And don't worry, I grew up learning about mythology, too.

They tend to be pretty consistent.

'Zeus fathered a kid in some weird way', 'someone got killed for hitting on Artemis', yanno. Things repeat themselves.
helborn: (and this is my emo tough guy look)

[personal profile] helborn 2017-04-03 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
'Loki screws up everything'... yeah, I know. Fate's weird like that. I'm just trying to be cautious in my assumptions because we have no real clue where we're going to end up. There's already people from different worlds here.
