Hey everyone, Ambrose here. New folks: welcome to your first Jaunt, it's a much comfier landing than most of us are used to. That said, I'm thinking "too good to be true" and "all that sparkles isn't emeralds" and "no such thing as a free lunch" and all kinds of other don't-take-nice-looking-things-at-face-value idioms.

If you need help blending in please ask. I know there's a few folks from this time in Earth's history, we're gonna need you guys. [ he really wants to ask what a "United Mileage Plus Explorer Card" is, that's one thing in his wallet he hasn't figured out. ] I do know magic isn't a known thing here, so... try and avoid summoning lightning and giant ice dragons and stuff like that, okay?

[ Ambrose well remembers the anxiety his Infiltrated-self felt last jaunt when presented with inconceivable feats of sorcery. speaking of: ]

And-- has anybody recognized any Infiltrators yet? Cuz if not that's downright weird.

It's all the Otherside to me, my world's still adapting to the combustion engine. I've had a few Jaunts with close to this level of tech so I'm not totally lost but... we need all the help we can get with some folks. Thank you.

You’re one step ahead of me there, then. And… well, hopefully whatever it is will make itself known soon. There’s a disease in the news but that could be like the dragons in Dolorosa: big obvious scary thing distracting from the real threat.

If...there's an illness in the news in a place like this, I think it must be pretty important, though. Usually, don't doctors take care of it...?

They do, but sometimes a disease comes up nastier than usual and the media jumps on it. I heard one lady on the radio wondering if this was a "false alarm" like bird flu, whatever that is. [ did it give people feathers? ] Still, three hundred folks being sick is nothing to... sneeze at.

[Yes, Ambrose...definitely feathers. Still, she can't really speak on it, seeing as how her amnesia leaves those times a big blank for her.

So instead, she just sounds uncertain, but accepting.]

Yeah, it was too late to stop that one, my sense of humor can have ill-- I I mean poor timing.

Except, well... Mai seems to appreciate it, if nothing else. The puns, plus his reactions... well, she's giggling, and it's probably noticeable even across the psychic network.]

[ he does just about hear it, and there may be an answering chuckle from him. ]

Sometimes all ya can do is laugh at our predicaments, or at least smile. If you start you start letting yourself get all doom-and-gloomy... well, you lose hope, and that's no good for anybody.

[She certainly agrees with it, though she also thinks--]

[ oh that's...overt complimenting, he's not sure what to do with it beyond pay it forward. ]

It's just another way to survive, Mai. I'm sure you've got your own ways of managing that.

[ahahaha that's a funny joke, she's already at 5 deaths in her canon, clearly her survival abilities are top notch.

But she just pauses a moment, before responding rather tentatively.]

I'm... not very good at helping with these Jaunts, but... I think that maybe I am getting a little stronger.

It takes a while to find you footing, but... nobody's useless. You don't need to slay dragons to help, Mai, you can be strong just by being there for folks and keeping an open mind.

[... it's nice to hear, certainly. She wants to believe it, and so she does, sounding a tad bit more confident when she responds.]

...Right. So long as we work together, we'll be okay in the end... I'm sure of it. I think...everyone here is amazing, working together like they do.

It's how we survive, and do the job. Whatever the job is.

[ that's rueful, as figuring out the issue usually takes up a good eighty percent of their time on a Jaunt. ]

[She can't really help there, that's for sure. There's a lot she still doesn't understand, but--]

...Until then, let's do our best here. To blend in, but...also to rest a little! Everyone really deserves the break, I think.
