Pre-Moebius Sharing [A couple days into the racetrack liminal]

So a lot of you know I've been tryin' to rebuild memories from before Moebius. For you new people, Moebius was a Jaunt before most of you got here, were we died a lot and lost our memories every morning. A lot of that stuck.

[Look, he's being helpful, filling things in for people who don't know the story. Isn't that nice of him?]

Managed to put together somethin' kinda big out of them.

[Enjoy a brief lifestream of Riddick's strange vision: everything is tinted slightly purple, sources of light are doubly bright, and everything seems much more focused on heat and motion. It's an image of his hands, held apart in front of him, and after a second, an arc of electricity jumps between them, from one hand to the other. He holds it only briefly, then lets it dissipate.]

We can make energy out of liminal stuff. Claudia don't need to shoot me with her electricity gun to power lightcycles no more, we can just make that shit.

Came with somethin' else interesting while I was tryin' to put that trick back together. I was on at least four Jaunts before Moebius happened, might be more-- but there were people back then from the last round of this. The one Fortune won. We called 'em the Unlucky Dead. I don't got much about 'em yet, just a couple names and faces, but I'm workin' on it.

Figured that might be important to know.

[The last bit is said dryly. He knows that's an understatement.]

[The door slides open easily for her, revealing the forge. Riddick is in the room beyond the forge fire, which is burning low rather than hot. The floor is covered in furs and rough cushions, but no chairs. Enjoy sitting on the floor, Asa.]

I was short. And immortal. And had some kinda problem with using the words "me" and "I". Worked out in the end, though, so guess it wasn't too bad.

Yeah. Useful if it's an enemy, but not so much if you're just tryin' to have a little fun.

I'm trying to imagine you as short. It's not working. [So amused.]

[She hunkers down to the cushions, getting comfortable with her legs crossed.] I had hooves. And ran around naked half the time.

[Remembering the version of Yoda from Bando, Riddick makes a vaguely disgusted face.]

I'll find a way to say it differently, next time. Think about it, though. All things are energy at their base. Just some things move slower and are more solid than others. Gotta keep it from gettin' that slow and solid, is all.

[He pauses, then adds,]

And gotta keep it contained. You can use yourself, though that might hurt, or you can use a wire or device. But if you don't, it explodes.

Can you use it outside of Liminal Space, though?

Right now, probably not. Might be able to make that work, but it'll take some doing.

Sounds like a good time.

[He's not going to share with her memories of being short. It'd be too silly to bother with. It was pretty weird, though.]

So tell me what all you can do with the network. I'll tell you if we can get started on learnin' memory tricks with what you got.

That could be very useful... And you can summon it on command?

Not a whole lot, unfortunately. Whatever I had before Moebius is still lost, and seeing as I was gone for years afterwards... [So much sigh.] I can do some livestreaming and psychic protection.

Ain't found the limit yet, but I haven't been tossing it around like crazy, either.

Once we get on a Jaunt I'll see what I can work out, when it comes to connectin' to liminal from the world. Can't imagine it can't be done.

If people can open portals to and from Liminal Space during a Jaunt, then it stands to sense that you should be able to draw on the energy. Something to explore, at least.

Are you back to normal? You seemed a little... smaller, during the Jaunt.

Yeesh. Nothing ventured nothing gained, huh. [Not that it's entirely surprising.]

Well, I have a lot of practice fiddling with electricity. Maybe... giving it somewhere to go before it can explode will help?

I think... at some point, I'd like to try and remember more of it.

[When you have hyperdrive, those kind of things tend to come up much earlier in science lessons]

Exploding is generally frowned upon.

[And that's when she creates an empty power cell. It seems like the obvious thing to channel energy into.]

Whoa! So we can make our own electricity now too?

[Eren might be from a world that hasn't invented electricity yet, but he ended up studying the basics of how it works if only to avoid shocking himself every time he has an encounter with modern technology. Although after that initial reaction the rest of what Riddick said finally sinks in. When Eren speaks again his voice is much less excited and instead is much more serious.]

...The Unlucky Dead, huh? I guess you don't remember why you called them that?

I am not surprised. The Principle of Endings is the Arcana most likely to express regret for his mistakes - and the most likely to understand that he has made mistakes.

...Dying over and over in a time loop is ritually powerful. I would not exist as I am if I did not.

I think because they were dead. Didn't have a world to go back to after the last Jaunt. Guess that's what Fortune did, sent everybody back where they came from.

And yeah. We can make our own electricity.

All right, yeah, you got some work to do.

[He looks a little apologetic about it, but only a little.]

At least, if you wanna do it the easier way. There's two parts to this. First part is makin' an environment in your brain where you can recreate stuff-- second part is actually reconstructing the memories. It's just a lot easier if you can look at what you're making.

Both parts mean you gotta learn somethin' first, though.

Generally, yeah. But just in case, I cleared the room of stuff that might catch.

[As she noticed.]

That's the goal, yeah. Energy needs a conduit. You could use yourself, but that might burn you up. Could make a wire or a battery or somethin'-- but you gotta have the control enough to get it there. So figure it's safer to just clean up a little.

I think I was somethin' like half my usual size.

[He's a bit bemused by that, honestly. Of all the infiltrations he's ever had, that was the only one that was shorter than usual.]

Lookin' up at you was weird, gotta say. Lookin' up at just about everybody was weird.

Don't think any of us vets would exist as we are without it. You'll notice most people don't wanna talk about it.

It's a lot of work. But I'm glad I did it. I hate missing parts of myself.

What I mean is, it's more than likely that if they were on the game board, they served a purpose in the Arcana's game. I just admit the chances of that are somewhat lower when we're talking about a game designed by the embodiment of chance.
