A few hours into the Jaunt

I've never done this before, but there's a first time for everything.

It's about time to do a check-in to see who are investigating - or at least have an infiltrator persona. My name is Jean Kirstein and... I don't investigate very often.

Apparently, I arrived with an ID that says I'm 21. So I guess age up, or down, is normal in this Jaunt. I also got a surprise guitar and seem to know how to play it...? Anyone else had something like that happen to them?

I won't ask if anyone has an idea of what we're supposed to do, since it's so early on the Jaunt... but it's good to keep your eyes open for any information that seems important.

Eye Dee, huh. So that's what this shiny little thing is? What exactly is it's purpose? If someone wants my name I can tell them. This thing doesn't even get my name right.

Don't worry, they got my name wrong too. I guess even our names are made to fit the year we're in and not just our clothes.

In Newport, the police forces and shops would ask for your ID to confirm who you were or what your age is. If you wanted to buy alcohol or porn you needed to be a certain age.

Well, strictly speaking mine got my name right. It just also thinks I'm a Prince.

People here need an Eye Dee to tell them whether or not someone's a child?

It's not that you're a prince, it's your last name. Also called a family name.

Some people tend to look younger or older than they really are, so it's a confirmation that someone is really the age they claim to be. Well, assuming no one's faked their ID.

I see. And what about these other pieces of paper? With all of these drawings on them. What are they for?

Sounds like this world has a lot of strange rules. Who cares what age someone really is?

I'm assuming we got the same thing, but that would be money. Something you can use to buy stuff. Not that I'm certain how much this is...

It's not normal in my own world either... but I'd assume people don't want young kids to get drunk and cause havoc.

Which is one night in a cheap motel, or ten cheap fast food combo meals.

Yeah, I can make a portal and some food for anyone who doesn't know how and needs to go to Liminal, at least. I'm sure many others can help with that too.

Also, there's a pawnshop in downtown Santa Carl...ita. So we can probably score some extra money there. Especially if someone goes to liminal space to make, like, gold jewelry and stuff for the rest of us to pawn.

And anyway, this is, like, 1989. Everything is hella cheap. Like I'd say at maximum a third of their modern twenty-first century prices.

... I dunno if it counts as getting it wrong or not, for, um, reasons... but mine says Charlene de Montreve instead of Charlene Durante. Although mine's an actual driver's license. Probably because I can actually drive.

My name's completely different. The same initials, so easy to remember but... it will still be weird to call myself Johan Kirk.

I think I've heard that surname somewhere before...

If you've got a learner's permit? Yeah. It means you can drive a car if there's an adult with a driver's license with you to teach you how to do it.
