Quick heads-up, Liminal Intranet may have a blip in service. I'm testing something with my room and it looks like I'm gonna have to take the whole thing down and re-establish it to get it to work.

If it does, though, y'all can bring your own plugs for charging stuff.

Something new with making energy out of liminal stuff?

Pretty much. I think I figured out how to actually wire a created space for electricity, instead of just making things work because you think they should work.

Gonna leave the server room set up the old way, so I don't have t worry about not getting enough juice to power it, but. If the rest of the space is a little more user-friendly, so much the better.

Or in other words... better power cells for everyone.

More like 'actually being able to recharge your shit.' For yours or some of the other super-high-tech people I'd probably have to see the plugs in order to make usable outlets, but it's a step in the right direction.

I can show you what I'd use to charge a cell. My lightsaber's powercell lasts a long time, but there are limits.

That'd be a good start. I mean, I'd definitely hope a proper lightsaber would last longer than the jury-rigged laser cutter improv from back home, but you still don't want it conking out in the middle of something.

I was really careful with the components, so it's reliable. But if you lose the blade...

Popped a light-amplifying Artifact onto the end of a laser cutter to deal with some robot minions, since Doug in his infinite wisdom decided maintenance robots needed nets and fire and spinning blades. [Doug's a great guy, but... concerning, sometimes.] The robots themselves got hijacked by a malevolent computer program that turned out to actually be half the programmer's brain uploaded to the mainframe.

[Hugo Miller is even more concerning.]

Then you run into trouble, especially if the other person's still armed. I get it. The Teslas were a recharging nightmare before I got my hands on 'em.

What kind of maintenance could ever need fire?

It's probably bad that I'm most confused about him only uploading half his brain.

Note I didn't accuse Doug of thinking this through.

He needed an assist from an Artifact to get any of his brain in there, and the connection gave out halfway through. The rest of him got packed off to an institution, because no one knew what had happened other than he clearly couldn't take proper care of himself anymore, and there was no way to find out until his stupid AI got activated.

[There was no place in Claudia's heart for malevolent computers before this incident. That left her with less of one.]

Okay, that makes two things here where it couldn't have possibly seemed like a good idea at the time.

For added 'fun,' the computer program? Was the left half of his brain. All logic, no compassion. It decided the agents were a liability and tried to freeze us out.

The good news was Pete and Myka had already gone looking for the rest of him.

So at least you only had the disconnnected inhuman half for a bit...

More like without the rest of him, we had no hope of shutting the damn thing down. Not that getting coherent information out of the guy was easy - he was usually right about what he was talking about, but you had to translate it out of Nonsense Babbling first. Pete and Myka asked him for the failsafe password and he drew a picture of a cat. Turned out the password was his cat's name.

Well. At least he was bad at password security.

Well, it was the '80s. People didn't really know from password security yet.

So you're saying if we have to slice into anything here we'll be good?

If we have to, but it's unlikely. We're at the very beginning of computers-as-reliable-data-storage.

So if we have to get into anything it'll be the folks kidnapping people, and they might actually have better security on their crap.

Or they won't think they need to because no one else has computers that are very useful. Kidnappers get sloppy if they don't think the kidnappees can do anything.

Good thing I wasn't sloppy, then.

On the other hand, I kidnapped Artie because I was pretty sure he could do more than he'd let on at first. Slightly different.

I had a brother to rescue, I wasn't getting anywhere on my own except slowly dead, and I was reasonably sure he wouldn't listen any other way.

Besides, we left the Warehouse in his car. Nothing stopping him from just leaving once he heard me out but himself. It was a desperation gambit and one I don't plan to repeat.
