Here comes trouble

As a heads up, there's been an abrupt uptick in bounty hunter activity last-- ah, day and a half or so.

[Brief pause to do some conversion there. Differing time measurements can be a pain.]

I've been able to chat with at least one under the guise of coming to hunt myself, and also take a quick look at what files they've been accessing. The Empress of Moths, or rather, the people suspected of being on it, are the most accessed targets.

It seems that our choices would be either to interfere, or stay out of the way. Thoughts?

I was starting to wonder about that. It's making things a bit more difficult around here.

Do we know why they're being targeted? Though, I'm always one to mess with authority anyway.

From what I've figured out, the Moth's port of origin was essentially a prison planet. Accused crimes run the gamut of subverting the government, to heresy, to selling third party tools.

We should be cautious, but the sheer number makes me wonder if that's what we're here for.

Well, I am in the system controlling the airlocks and bulkheads if needed I can help with diversions.

I'm adverse to killing anyone though. [He may be an Assassin, but senseless killing, would draw way too much attention and he didn't think they needed THAT kind of panic on their hands.]

Between you and Riddick, we may have the makings of an excellent diversionary expedition. The psychic network is also somewhat less hackable than other means of remote communication, so there's less worry of being discovered.

How quickly can you lower a bulkhead to seal of a section of the station, and can you make it seem like a system fault?

[A pause.]

I also agree that making killing a very last resort is the best choice.

Have it down to a few seconds, I was playing around with the system in one of the unused sectors of the station.

And making it seem like the system's faulty is possible. I was just messing around ghosting things, once I figured it out, it's a little easier than hacking Templar email servers. Even with 'primative' computer software. [ Hey he likes his 20th century earth tech thank you very much!]

I'm secure where I am at least, hard to hack and run when you have to be hardwired to the system, but give me a few minutes to patch into the security cameras and I'll be ready to act as support. Still not sure if I trust this mind to mind communication, but it's safer than trusting radio here.

As for the network, I believe you're right in not trusting it where the C-- Arcana are concerned, but in this case it does become the more secure option, unfortunately.

I'm in the warehouse like area of the station. In a security office that looks like no one's been here since the 1980's back on Earth. There was about six inches of dust before I cleared it out, been hiding out here mostly since I found it. The storage area below is clear though. If anyone needs to crash for a bit in hiding, I can lead them the way.

I'd be tempted to send Beeca, but pretty sure she can't do low profile. [He feels bad about keeping her pogged all this time, but would be a little suspicious for her to be out and about.] Though last resort I can probably talk her into it.

I know where you're talking about. If I spot someone who needs a place to hide, I'll direct them that way.

[A pause, because Thace isn't sure who Beeca is. A friend? Well, it's slower, but it could be more secure, depending.] If you think it's a good idea, I won't object.

No problem, I'll slip out of here to get some supplies, but I won't go far.

I wouldn't be surprised if there will be bounties put out for information on who caused the mess.

[But Thace is pretty sure not on them specifically, because nobody will connect it to them, right?]

[ Shaun chuckled a little.] Well they might find ghosts for a while after this. I may have had a little fun. Nothing to cause damage. Programming is still just a list of commands, I don't understand all of it, but playing around I might have left some stray code here and there. And considering my tech's so old, it's not leaving any clues about as to what's going on. Might seem like the AI is becoming sentient.

That's one way to disguise your tampering. I'm better at sneaking past defenses than tampering, so I might call on your skill in the future.

For now, though, I have preparations to make.

Would be something to fill downtime, so I'll get started on it as soon as I get back. I'll even try to follow you and any other travelers on the security cameras, try to keep security going in circles away from us while you guys are doing your thing.

My bounty's almost the biggest, anyway, so at least I'll be tempting until the fuckers realize they can't take me. And even then, there will be enough who think they can to keep 'em coming.

Perhaps I can assist. The network and codes here isn't all that complicated. I could adjust the local displays to make the bounty seem larger than it is. Would you like to be a mark they couldn't refuse?

That sounds like a damn fine idea. If you can do that, do that. Ain't like they can do anything to me that won't be gone in a minute or two.

I'm sure I can. Give me, hm, half an hour should be more than enough time for me to make the alteration and draw attention to it. I can continue posing as a bounty hunter myself and accidentally interfere from time to time. If we can keep them all chasing you, others can make sure the truly native targets are escorted out of harms way, and the Empress of Moths can disembark safely.

That sounds like a plan, to me. I can even feed you locations if you want, whenever I'm ready to get attacked again.

Okay, property damage should be an overnight stay at worst, around here, and a fee. Probably better if somebody just comes and pays your bail rather than me or Thace come bust you out. Less people likely to be bleeding and less likely for you to get in deeper shit.
