If you'd been stuck in a dungeon for as long as I was without being able to restock on booze, you'd want one too. And I know I could, but it takes time to learn that stuff no matter how close you are. So before I get there, a refill from somewhere else will do.

So more like training to become a huntress? Or, well, maybe the more used term is a warrior.

Yeah, the common term here would probably be warrior or something like that. We're called benders, though you have to be born to be one and most people are not. And in war times they'd call us warriors... But bending is the ability to control / manipulate one of the basic elements fire, water, air or earth -- or all of them, in case a bender is like me, but there's only one reincarnation of me in every generation.

Never heard of huntresses before, though I could hunt my own food and fish my own fish?

That's interesting. Sounds almost like Semblances back home. They're unique abilities one is born with and you can't just learn them just like that. Some of them are based off elements and some definitely not.

[He chuckles at the later sentence.]

I'm pretty sure we huntsmen and huntresses can as well if we need to. We're sort of like the protectors of the world. We fight monsters and solve crimes, for example. Some are even seen as celebrities...

They also come with ability to bend other related elements or other skills we can learn sometimes. Wterbenders can be healers and earthbenders can also bend metal while firebenders can learn to redirect lightning... Semblances sound interesting too ...So, in case where they are not element based, what are they then? Can they be anything?

I'm pretty sure anyone who learns them somewhere can do that. Oh, so we both protect the world then, aaaaand the rest of that sounds very familiar too. I guess our worlds aren't that different sometimes even if they can still be really different despite the similarities.

If I were to make an example... my niece can burst into rose petals. She becomes a lot faster while she does so it's great for catching anyone off-guard or just running away. Otherwise there are those who can use their Semblance to give themselves a power boost or make illusions.

Heh. Seems like it. And differences only make things more interesting.

Sure, anytime. There's training rooms for sparring and then there's all this ...space in Liminals, the ones that have a lot of space for doing things anyway.

Wow, so it can be a lot of different, very cool things then. I mean sure, we can use bending in a lot of creative ways too and spirits do their own things around all the time but I've never seen anyone turn into rose petals.

It's definitely a very special ability. There are Semblances that run in the family, so to say, but those aren't really that common. Usually every one is unique to their owner, even if there can be some very similar to others'.

[If she'll ask, he'll tell his semblance as well. It's not something he should keep much of a secret around other Travelers. Back at home he had his reasons not to say anything, but here was a different story.]

Huh. Well bending doesn't run in the family either, whether or not someone borns to be a bender is coincidental and then it is even more coincidental to be born to be the Avatar -- that's my title back home, means I can bend all the elements and I'm supposed to bring balance to the world with it and be the bridge between the mortal world and the Spirit World. Though some siblings can both be born to be benders, I know a few but then all of them are not and some of them can be benders of different elements.

So, what's your Semblance? If you don't mind sharing it. [ he could obviously just not tell if he minds too much. ]

So it's pretty much up to your luck if you can bend elements or not. Well, it's kind of the same for what Semblance you get so that's not so surprising.

Misfortune. My ability is to bring misfortune to everyone around me, including myself. I can't turn my Semblance off or control it so it's always there. Kind of a like a bad luck charm.

Yeah, no one will know if their kid is a bender until they start showing it at early age. [ or later in case of surprise airbenders but uh... ] Though it varies if a bender can use the other things included in their element too. I guess the worlds can't make it too easy for us by not giving us the option to choose what we want to do.

Someone who's born a firebender can't necessarily control lightning, or something like that? Does being an avatar let you control everything ever?

They'd have to find someone to teach them to do that, yeah, though we all also have to find someone to teach us our main element. With any luck the teacher anyone finds has mastered all the skills for that element and is willing to teach them to new benders too... Or some have learned a different skills from it than others, then we just have to find all of them. I've had to find my teachers too and I haven't actually learned lightning -- not yet, anyway, not sure if I ever will. But technically I had connection to all my past lives, where I was able to use all skills from them too. But I could learn all of them without help from my past lives, sure!

[ Except she'll never want to learn to bloodbend. The fact that she's 21 and hasn't learned lightning bending either might say something about it... or for the fact that she still has new skills to learn and teacher for it near her.

Genuine laughing is good, she should take some pride for getting him to do that. ]

Oh good, because I might accidentally do them sometimes. Hey at least no one can say they jinxed things to happen anywhere near you, when they happen anyway but that's good to know that things like that might happen with it.

Technically everyone has the potential to learn them, but might never realize it unless they seek a teacher?

Yeah, if someone ever says they jinxed something, I just need to wave my hand nearby to let them go off their guilt.

That is the short version of it, yes. If they don't learn one, there might be another related skill to it that fits them more. An earthbender friend of mine wanted to bend metal for I don't even know how long, but he accidentally learned how to bend lava instead while he was saving people from trouble... So you know, sometimes they don't even need a teacher, some people teach themselves or learn by watching.

That makes sense. A lot of abilities tend to activate when you really need them. Especially when you fight for someone.

Yeah, been in that situation myself too sometimes and know a lot of stories about it happening to people back home.

Speaking of people, we tend to fight against them or spirits, whose negative energy has gone too high. You said you fight monsters, what kind of monsters?

Funny that you mentioned negative energy. You see Grimm, the monsters in our world, get drawn to negative emotions. The more panic and such is in the air, the more likely Grimm are to strike there.

They don't have a soul and they generally just bring destruction around them.

On the bright side, anyone with liminal manipulation ii can help you with a drink - people other than Remy finally figured out how to make nourishing food and drink. I'd say probably about one in two Travelers can do it now. You may just want to make friends with Naoki, though - we can make rooms not subject to all the foibles of liminal space now, and I believe he's actually running a bar out of his.

[While he was in a dungeon a while, even by dungeon standards, he still remembers some of the others who were in Moebius. Armin included. Seeing him as an image? Now that's a new feature. Then again, it's not like they had a chance to explore what the network was back then.]
