[Over the last couple of days Sera had steadily gotten more and more withdrawn. Surely that was understandable, given what had happened to her in the last Jaunt? Except it wasn't about that; it was something worse. Something she gave no other outward sign of until she was forced at last to reach out on the psychic network. Now without the strength to even try to filter her emotions, her mental voice brings with it her desperation, fear, and hunger. the thoughts come in fragments, like she's having trouble focusing.]

Please- Please, I need help- I- I have the Demon Virus. I need to devour-

REND. KILL. [Here there is a shift in the mental voice. It is still obviously Sera, but it feels different. It's harsher, almost feral, and brings with it a sensation of bloodlust. Sera's struggle against these alternate instincts can be felt as well. Desperate to stay in control, but slipping with terrifying frequency.]

No! Please I need to- Need to devour people- Devour or I lose control. But There's no enemies here. No morgue. I don't want to hurt-

[Thankfully, it doesn't take Leonardo long to find the right classroom, not when he can follow the muffled sound of Hijikata's voice, and the predatory growl that follows it. He slowly slides the door open, peering in to make sure nothing has gone horribly wrong yet.

And when he's determined that no one is hurt, he carefully slides the door shut behind him. No one else needs to see this, especially since it would certainly diminish the chances of completing the Jaunt successfully. He can probably fix that closet door with enough time in Liminal Space.]

Thank god you are both all right. [... well they won't be in a few minutes, but what matters is they're okay now.] We should all go to Liminal Space for this, if we can.

[Not in pain exactly but... she was moving strangely. Like an animal that had something wrong with it. Maybe that was exactly what the creature was at this point, barely keeping her human mind at this point and slipping further with every second.]

[She freezes again as Leo steps inside, and lets out another growl. This one was a little different though. There was more urgency in it. As if to say get back. No, she wasn't going to be able to make it into Liminal Space on her own, not without eating something first. There was a tense moment where she continued to stare at Leonardo.]

[Then, thankfully, she turned back to Hijikata and crouched to lunge at him, arm back to swing the blade around with maximum force. It was unclear whether she'd understood him or not, but it couldn't be helped now.]

[If they wanted to prevent blood here, Leo would have to open the portal between the two of them just as Varnani sprang at him. Otherwise they might have a mess to clean up later. ...At least it was a science classroom and the demon wasn't likely to leave much, so perhaps they could come up with some excuse?]

Well. Great timing for him keeping a leg (but it'll heal, whatever), possibly not great timing for Leonardo not getting possibly scathed by this himself.

He doesn't take his eyes off her as Leonardo speaks. He's dealt with enough rasetsu to know (and her affliction seems similar enough in that sense) that it doesn't take much for control to finally slip -]

[Because if at any moment her control finally fails her, Hijikata would prefer to be the first one in line to take the fall.
