Open to All Investigators-Beginning of Digital Frontier Jaunt

For those who are experiencing this for the first time, don't worry. Just keep calm and listen to this message.

If you're hearing this, you're what we call an investigator: someone who retains their memories from their home and other worlds if they have them while in a Jaunt. Some of us have blended in with the setting and are called Infiltrators; don't try and jog their memory back otherwise we'll be in a lot of trouble. They also cannot use the network we're on right now.

What we need to know now is who's not thinking they're a program and what they have noticed so far. Anything will help us try and figure out a way to solve this next issue.

I have been filled in, at least briefly... all I've really gathered is that no one has any idea what we are, and they're suspicious of us and the ones with green lights.

The ones with red lights are the most suspicious.

Oh, I'm Randolph Lyall. Biology teacher and werewolf. I haven't tried changing in here; I'm not really sure I can, to be honest. But if it helps, I have above-average senses and strength, so I could be of use there, if need be.

If they're the most suspicious, that just leaves me wondering what exactly they're defending. [And whether it's the right thing to defend, or in everyone's best interest.] I think we'll need someone to get in close with the Red Team to find out.

That's one heck of a skill set. Is there a reason why you couldn't change in here, aside from... well, the obvious?

I can only change when the sun is down. The strength only applies then, as well. I'm... not really sure what counts as a sun here, so I'm playing it safe thus far and not trying anything. The senses persist during the daylight, however, and those still work as advertized.

Yeah, when all we have to go on is 'millicycles' and no sense of how long those are, it's going to be a little tricky to figure that out. Still, at least you have some of it to work with - better than nothing, right?

Indeed. Though everything here smells strange. I'm still working on putting names and sights to the things I'm smelling. We appear to be inside some kind of computer system, and everything here is synthesized. I actually think what I'm scenting might simply be data that I'm only processing as scent... it all seems very complicated, to be honest.

Maybe as time goes on you'll get a better idea of what it is. Like how we know next to nothing about all these factions right now.

I'll keep my ears open to the best of my ability. If I find out anything of use, I suppose I can come here? To this telepathic... thing we have?

That would be my best guess. I'm new to this too.

At least being suspicious of us is nothing new..

[ Not like they haven't endured that during a few Jaunts before, after all. But there's something else about this that grabs Inigo's attention, making him blink a little. ]

Er, though.. does being a "werewolf" mean you are part wolf?

It means I can turn into one, when the sun is down. And as I said, the stronger senses of smell and hearing, like a wolf might have, though I believe mine are actually magically enhanced beyond your typical canine.

Well, one of my comrades back home.. he was a Taguel. It means that he was able to change into a more rabbit-like form from time to time. [ It feels like ages since he's even seen Yarne, on top of it, so anything vaguely familiar would already be welcome.. ]

I was wondering if it was anything like that.

Oh, I am entirely a wolf, when I change, at least on the outside. A kind of light brown with a lighter belly. I've never seen a wolf that color, but perhaps being magical in nature has something to do with it.

I do keep my mind, for the most part, I just can't talk. This whole telepathic thing we have is going to be ridiculously useful.

[ .. it does sound a lot like it, huh. What a coincidence, to think other worlds have something like Taguels too.. especially since they're pretty much going extinct in Inigo's. ]

I see-- I have to say I am sort of familiar with the process, then. If anyone mistakes you for a real animal, feel free to call upon me for help. [ God knows it's happened back home with Yarne a few times.. ]

It makes a good disguise, if I need it, to be honest. I'm fairly practiced at coming across as a harmless, shaggy dog. But I do appreciate the offer. If this telepathy thing fails us, I will certainly need allies who can understand what I am.

Suspicious is about how these things usually go. Best we can do is try not to aggravate it until we can get some footing.

I'm going to be doing my best to keep my head down, yes. I've already been threatened twice for if I cause any disturbances. They all seem confused as to my lack of a "priority". I guess that's something like rank.

Twice on the first day isn't our record, but it's definitely worse than usual. This one's gonna be a barrel of laughs, I can tell already.

Do you have any idea what our purpose here might be? I'm completely in the dark, I'm afraid. I'm familiar enough with the setting, but there must be some kind of political or physical job for us to do. We're here to help people and solve problems, right?

Figuring out what we're supposed to be doing is usually part of the job description. Sometimes it's pretty obvious when we show up.

Sometimes, not so much.

Like here. At least I'm not the only one confused. I was a little afraid it was just due to how new I am to all this.

Some of it gets easier after a few.

Some it's just the same confusing shit every time.
