I have the list for Travelers who have gone out of ambit. I haven't given this list for quite some time, given the extended period between the last two jaunts.

[There's no preamble - he doesn't like doing this and hasn't had a good week. He doesn't have anything to say he thinks people would want to hear, not right now.]

I can't. I've never been good at working with liminal space - I can't even make portals. I mostly focus on the network; I usually do pretty good with that.

Do you have to pick one? [Pearl munches thoughtfully on a piece of bread too.] I don't think I've learned anything about liminal space either... I-I can do some network things, though.

[Armin dips his bread in the soup, hoping it might make her comfortable enough to follow suit in eating the soup.]

You don't have to pick one. A lot of people can do some of both. But I can do more network things than most people who can do some of both.

What things have you learned to do?

Um... I can find people sometimes! Which I couldn't do back home.

[He starts on a piece of jerky, realizing that though he suggested the meal for Pearl, he hasn't actually eaten in quite a while.]

Are there any ones you think you want to learn?

I-I don't know. What kind of things can you learn? [she's pretty much being doing it by accident.]

All sorts of things. How to share your memories, or blend in with the locals, or to be able to communicate even when you're asleep. How to talk to someone on walkabout when you're on the jaunt, or the other way around. How to bring people back to themselves when they're infiltrating, or how to stay yourself even when you're infiltrating. And a bunch more too.

[A bunch more that he probably won't be sharing with her, as much of it is less innocuous and benign.]

Oh, wow... [That's a lot of things.] Um... I-I think blending in with people would be good, right?

I think so too. [He dips his bread in the soup again, taking a large bite.] If you want, I could tell you about how that works when we're done eating.

But we could do that sometime later too, if you don't feel up for it now.

Um... what kind of things do I have to be able to do to do that?

Are you able to stream what you can see and hear for other people over the network? And can you tap into what other people see and hear if they want you to?

Mmhm, I think so... [She doesn't use it much, but.]

If you have those, I think that's all you need to know before you can figure out psychic mirror.

What does that one do? [it's a weird name...]

That one lets you blend in physically with someone for a few minutes - gestures, posture, and body language, that sort of thing. And once you have that down, you can work up to saying what they expect to hear, and finally blending in entirely, so that you don't stick out to them at all.

Wow... t-that seems kind of weird too, though. I can make them not ignore me if I want, right?

It's not that they ignore you - it's that you're entirely inconspicuous to them. So if you talk to them, they'll still talk back - but they probably won't think about it too much afterwards, and they won't notice anything strange about you.

Like during the liminal where we saw our pasts, I saw myself in a world where everyone was an elf. I wasn't an elf, I still looked like I normally do, but even though I was in a big crowd, nobody noticed that I was different.

Does that make sense?

Oh... [That sounds much better.] I think so! Um... how does it work?

[He doesn't want to ruin the meal with psychic lessons, because he knows it won't occur to him again after he starts.]

[She nods, finishing her nibbling of bread.] Yes, thank you.

[He takes a moment to put away the remaining food, and then to cast prestidigitation to clean the dishes before he clears them away too.]

Okay. We'll start with psychic mirror. If we can figure that one out, I can teach you the others sometime later - but we'll go slowly for now. I know that for me, if I try to learn too much at once, I might end up forgetting everything, or not learning it right in the first place.

Hmm. First, we should figure out who we should try to mirror.

[hmmm. that's hard.]

It won't work if it's you, right? S-should we find someone else...? [she doesn't like that idea much... what if she's not any good?]

We don't need to find them - you can use it to imitate someone who's not around right now. And it can be me, if you want, it'll still work - it's just that it should be someone who has fairly distinctive body language and nonverbal communication. That way we'll know for sure whether or not it's working.

And it would probably be easier if it's someone you know pretty well, too. Can you think of someone like that? [It's up to her if she thinks his body language is distinctive, or if she feels close to him - he's not sure he can properly be the judge of either of those.]

...Can I try to do you...? [She's not sure she knows anyone here super well, not the way she'd be able to mimic Mystic Maya or Mr. Nick. But she's not sure what counts as 'distinctive' either.]

[He nods, his expression gentle. He tries to look reassuring.]

That's okay, if that's what you'd rather try. Can you try to picture some of my body language? Any little motions or quirks you've noticed? [He's not sure exactly what those would be - but she could have easily noted his precise movements and military posture, or the way he moves so he's constantly aware of his surroundings, even if she doesn't really understand them. They're unconscious to him, but probably fairly noticeable to those around him who aren't used to that sort of thing.]

It's easier if you can picture what kinds of things you're trying to imitate, and if you know the person. Once you figure it out and get a little better at it, you'll be able to start doing it without that, but we'll go for something easier on the first try.
