[Walkabout] Check in

... so I guess some of us didn't go to the Grid after all. Instead we're stuck in how many meters of snow? Well, I'm not complaining too much.

Apparently, we're in a country called Finland and it's the year 2006. They've just won... the Eurovision? Whatever that is? And we're at a pretty famous ski resort! I wonder if we were just awarded a vacation or if there's something else going on... well, I'm at least gonna do a lot of winter sports while here.

If anyone needs help with how to snowboard, I'm your man!

So who all do we have here? I'm Yosuke if someone doesn't know.

Or Familiar Faces. Jordi in particular is a sharp stab in the ass nearly every time he turns up.

[There's a brief snippet of memory sent along with the message; the face of the man might be recognizable as Prometheus, though the clothing and the surroundings are rather more futuristic, all glassy black and glowing red.

Grid colours, or something very similar.]

[The resemblance to Prometheus gets a distinctly grimace-like reaction out of Kinji.]

Yeah, I remember this fella from Greece. Seems he's awful fond of positions a' power, then.

Ah, was he there as well? I missed that trip.

He's fond of power, incarceration, and rough interrogation. Not the combination we want to wind up on the wrong side of, if we can avoid it.

He was Prometheus there, he was the one what set up the entire plan t'overthrow the old gods an' reinstall the Titans. I did a fair bit a' workin' alongside him. I'd say he seemed reasonable but given that he was tryin' to - an' succeeded, I might add - in changin' up an entire pantheon, I ain't trustin' him next time I see him.

[That being said, he'd happily work alongside the guy again, if only to keep tabs on him.]

A shocking number of tyrants seem reasonable at the outset. Given all I've heard about that particular Jaunt, I'm hoping we don't have the chance to test whether or not he's one of them.

S'pose we'll find out if we ever go back t'that version a' Greece an' see how his new pantheon's holdin' up.

[When all was said and done, mostly Kinji's problems with the guy was that he kept trying to offer Kinji a spot in the Pantheon.]

But it looks like we're on Walkabout this time over - which is new fer me - so here's hopin' it ain't gonna be so intense that he's hangin' 'round.

And here's hoping someone can find a high roof and a clean shot if it is.

Ironically, he was coming off a lengthy incarceration himself there - he'd been imprisoned and tortured by the then-ruling pantheon for stealing fire from them and giving it to humanity.

I expect whether that's irony or poetic justice depends strongly on whether he's a strangely similar figure repeated across multiple worlds, or functions similar to Infiltrators.

Probably.

Either way, he ended up as part of the new pantheon of gods, or will have once he's served out a short "sentence" of living as a human for a few years.

For the fire? Or for some other affront against the powers that be?

In-Jaunt? He was one of the planners behind the successful overthrow of the ruling Greek pantheon. His accepting the punishment was, I think, meant as a gesture of good faith on his part.

[Which does not preclude additional scheming on his part.]

The replacement pantheon was supposed to be split equally between selected Greek gods, Prometheus's faction of Titans, and humans who'd become deified during the Jaunt.

Not quite so neat in practice as in theory, then?

I think they were still arguing about who was going to be on it when we left. The summit meeting was... fraught.

[Melanthios had come very close to leaving altogether.]

Politics are rarely comfortable. No surprise it's even worse when gods are involved.
capital_asset: (Please be kidding.)

Indeed.

[Especially when some of those gods are known for being extraordinarily petty.]
