Okay, so I've been trying to reconstruct my memories of our first time here, admittedly without a hell of a lot of success so far. But I did just remember this: There's a storm coming - a real nasty one, from what I've managed to scrape together. If our cattle thieves aren't either properly prepared for it, or aren't in the caverns by the time it hits, they're probably gonna lose most of the cattle.

Born that way, I guess, although the one I know of showed up because of rumor bullshit. Their usual thing is being born, spouting some unavoidable prophecy or other, and then dying a short time later.

Thanks in large part to the wager that shithead had with another entity who is high on my shitlist despite being supposedly benevolent, any and all rumors started coming true. Any rumors, from doomsday prophecies to one of the local restaurant owners selling weapons on the side to various urban legends and mythological weirdos actually existing. Which is how we got a Kudan running around Sumaru City in 1999.

Yukki, your world is fuckin' weird. That sounds like it would've been a disaster. What about when rumors conflicted? Said opposite things?

It pretty much was, in the original timeline - mine just barely averted it.

When rumors conflicted... it varied. If it was an event, or even something like a weapon or spell being spuper-strong versus super-weak, it was basically a matter of whichever side spread their rumor faster and more widely - and yes, humans and demons took advantage of that shit. Sometimes you had things flipping back and forth, which was fun.

If you were talking about specific people, on the other hand... then you had shadow doubles running around, assuming someone was quick and thorough enough to spread some counter-rumors. And spreading counter-rumors was not infrequently in your best interest, because this shit was retroactive. That lady who ran the ramen restaurant who was rumored to be selling weapons on the side? Always was selling weapons on the side, once that rumor took hold.

How the fuck did you even manage to fix that?

I don't think everything did get fixed, actually, although new rumors at least stopped coming true. My crew was basically on civil defense while my friend Maya and her group went after Nyarlathotep. From what I understand, they had to stop him from restoring the memories of three kids who were friends with a fourth who did remember, and who I guess was... possessing his counterpart in our world? Maybe? I didn't get the full story on what his deal was. In the old reality, they were all friends, and Philemon's price for fixing things was that they never remember that.

Anyway, once they got the kids to safety they had to go beat the crap out of Nyarlathotep. Again. I don't have all the details, because I didn't get to go with them and then I ended up here.
