To everyone who is new, I wish to extend a welcome. You are in what is called Liminal Space, a world between worlds, and you are now a Traveler. What that means differs by who you ask, however feel free to find any of us who have been here for a while and ask. I am by no means the longest-tenured traveler, but I would certainly answer any questions you have. I am easily found, as I am small and wear a blue hat.

I truly apologize for this particular intrusion into your minds with things you will not understand, however this is important and, I mostly speak to those of us who are not new.

I obtained some information about the Trumps who have died before we left the last Liminal Space. First, how they died, and the fact that they are dead is extremely relevant. Second, there were three causes of death between the four Trumps. The first was killed by an external force. My suspicion is that this is the King in Yellow or some power like him. The second and fourth causes were internal issues among the Trumps, and the third was another internal issue.

As this seems to be something that keeps coming up, and something that is important to our mission here, whatever that might be, I want to give this information to everyone. If anyone has any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

Jaunts. Two of them directly, one indirectly? is that closer to what you're thinking?

It is possible, yes. Either the Jaunt itself, or something related to a Jaunt. Sun's words, 'claimed the life of' and 'caused', indicate, at least to me, that there are other specific causes of death, but these reasons, are why the Trumps are dead.

That's... unfortunate.

I think we need to be careful what Travelers we discuss this with, too.

Understood. There are those who might attempt to take advantage of this.

I know we disagree on some things, but I do think we can agree that more dead Trumps is likely a very bad outcome.

I don't agree that we can't beat them. But I agree that if we choose that way, we've done the wrong thing, and started a direct battle we can't possible win.

In theory, we could oppose them, perhaps even beat them. I can agree with that. I do not think it is a wise course of action.

From here, though, I do not know where we are. What do we do with this?

We keep on investigating. Until we're closer to the Truth.

...Something related to a Jaunt. Do we know what happens when we don't meet... whatever a given objective is?

If both the external and internal causes of death are relevant, that implies we have at least some control over the internal ones, on top of possibly being here to prevent the external.

I'm in no hurry to go up against another godly being, especially not eighteen of them. And anything that gets the rest killed may not bode well for us - as far as we know, that's killing our way home.

The last time it happened, three quarters of us vanished.

...That super doesn't bode well. What exactly happened?

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I spent eight months or so on walkabout in dungeon dimensions.

I more meant on the Jaunt, Souji-san. But that doesn't sound particularly pleasant.

It wasn't.

We refused to try and solve their puzzle in that world. We went on strike.

You forfeited, then. That's a little different from a failure by circumstance - using the Grid as an example, if that damn bomb had been allowed to detonate, or maybe even if we'd chosen to side against ROSE since it was her show. [And they could have easily decided throwing their lot in with the other Trumps involved in the matter was the right course of action.]

Is it possible the forfeit was the third death? I don't know what the fourth would have been, in that case, but 'caused the death of' would line up better with the forfeit. Does anyone who's around know what happens when there's a circumstantial loss?

And if it was the forfeit... definitely a dangerous idea to let out of the bag. There are probably people here who'd take that idea and refuse to play on every Jaunt until we ran out of Trumps, and we have no way of knowing what would fill that power vacuum.

[Not to mention, as previously noted, that could be killing their only way home. Would they all just end up stuck in liminal space indefinitely? Would they be able to get back to liminal space at all?]

Or what would be done to us to prevent it from becoming a pattern.

... I'm not sure. I think we get punished, but I don't remember.

Someone once said the Jaunt before Moebius was a failure, but I don't remember.

Well, at this point, the size of the group that'd be displaced by declaring consensus failure would severely chunk the people who don't like what's going on. That would at least slow down the attrition on the Trumps' part.

[Naoki snorts.] From what little I've heard about Moebius, maybe the punishment was sending you there. In any case, better the devil we know for now. So to speak.
