If anyone wants to get away from the creepy, I'm throwing a birthday party for Rosie. It's a few weeks early, but who knows if we'll be ourselves when that rolls around. Plus third time's the charm for me actually getting to throw her party myself, right?

[He had been planning a party and then Liminal was cake. And then he was planning a party and Rose turned Liminal into cake.

There's a pause before he adds something in an awed tone.]

Guys, can you believe she's almost three?

What does she make out of that, I wonder? Maybe she'll grow up to be an actress.

She doesn't like coming back from overlays where Zoe was around and remembering that she's out of ambit. But it's not like she knows what it's like to actually stay the same person for years at a time.

Oh, excellent! Three is such an adorable age for little girls. Well, unless they're being mischievous. And then it's adorably frustrating.

Is there anything in particular you think she'd like as a gift?

Mischievous is more or less her default setting, but she's awfully cute.

I usually suggest books since that's the one thing she can't make herself out of liminal stuff.

[Riddick doesn't feel like it's surprising, but then, he's been here a damn long time, and it feels like Rose has only been part of it for a little while. Still, there's smile to his mental voice.]

So long as you don't mind she's spamming words in people's heads now. Whatever one she's picked up most recently, usually. Hasn't quite got the hang of applying them to the things they mean all the time yet.

I take it that's how Rose did it. Took a while to get concepts attached to words and shit.

[He admittedly did not interact all that much with baby Rose. Babies were never the right age to be impressed by him, so he never knew what to do with them. (Still doesn't, really.]

Yeah and then there was a phase of any word she figured out meaning a whole bunch of thing. She got a lot of mileage out of "Up!".

Tara's gettin' mileage out of "hammer" so far. Sounds like Rose was a little more efficient.

Hammer doesn't seem quite as versatile... but I guess she sees them a lot.

Better than "swim". At least "hammer" is a thing, and I can correct it pretty easy if she uses it for the wrong thing.

It’s an age of chaos by default. Be grateful she doesn’t climb towers, the way my brother did.

It's amazing what you can get used to. Sometimes I manage to forget that her climbing on the ceiling isn't normal.

There's definitely that. She tends to charge into things so I'm glad she's got those tricks.

I'm not planning to turn all of liminal into cake. Even though that seems to be the tradition.
