psychic bridge II (main jaunt --> humans)

I think we can all agree everything this jaunt chooses to be sucks, yes?

This is Naoki. I'd have checked in sooner, but I'm half-infiltrating, we didn't have reason to think there was a network divide until just now, and it's... already been a very busy week.

So. We know the midges are cameras, we know there are at least a few actors among us - it's far from everyone, but I think we've pinpointed at least two - we know everyone was delivered here from space after unknown time spent in a lab, and we know this is Earth. If anyone remembers whether Karachi is India or Pakistan, that's apparently roughly where we are, going off stuff someone found underwater. We have about twenty minutes to compare notes and start working on a plan.

(OOC: Up to fourteen Beastfolk-side investigators can join in on this discussion!)

[If he goes quiet for a little bit, well...he's actually had his actions framed as a terrorist attack to turn the population against him back home.]

Dammit, we can't just let them get away with this! If we could at least empower the population to seize some control back...

No, we can't. But we have to make sure we do it right - without giving them the opportunity to spin the narrative to something that will let them reassert control. And they will treat it as a narrative.

[And fuck, does she hate thinking of it in those terms.]

The news media's under tight control up here, but Orwell's cocky. They've had a lot of power for a long, long time and there hasn't been anyone to really challenge them. I think we can work with that; it's just a matter of figuring out how.

It'll have to be something subtle, something they won't notice until it's too late.

[There's a long pause.]

Now, I can at least volunteer myself to be a distraction should we need one. I'm very good at being the flashy center of attention. I'm just not going to do it without a clear plan.

Subtle and decisive, yeah.

[Yukino really wishes she was better at subtle.]

We might very well need a distraction or three. But yeah, we're going to need a clear plan. Being on separate networks makes that harder, but hopefully we can still come up with something workable.

We may be able to talk like this again. We'll have to plan on the possibility. Even if one person is able to get through to the others, it'll be enough. The important thing is that we coordinate our efforts, because I can't see us having very many opportunities to get things done.

I can see that being a regular thing now that you guys know we're up here - I'm not sure if any of us who are ourselves actually have the necessary skill to break through to you. But yeah, we're definitely going to need to coordinate as much as possible.

I know what we're seeing up there, but have you found any actual tech down there anywhere? I mean, Orwell's got a vested interest in keeping it all hidden, but they've got to get people and supplies down to you somehow. Plus there's the terraforming.
carbonatedscientist: (what's that up there)

[personal profile] carbonatedscientist 2019-05-31 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Outside of the midges, no, I haven't personally been able to get my hands on any sort of tech.

I can produce as much as I need in Liminal, of course, but here, it's a work in progress.

There's probably something else down there, if they can call up natural disasters on command. Although now I'm wondering if there's some kind of centralized control for the midges.

It wouldn't surprise me.

It also wouldn't surprise me if it weren't somewhere easily accessed--why leave dangerous toys out where your victims could find them?

[There's a sigh.]

I didn't get much chance to poke around on the island where we all arrived. There could be another, similar island with more tech nearby, or it could just be there somewhere. It's very frustrating, really.

I wonder how much the terraforming's being held back because it's actually not up to the level it needs to be or because it's being purposely held back that way. I mean, if Swift's got a goddamned safari running...

But yeah, they've probably made their tech harder to access, if for no other reason than to keep the people they've brainwashed and sent down from accidentally finding it.

[personal profile] carbonatedscientist 2019-06-01 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
If they're underestimating us, we at least have that advantage. We've just got to leverage it properly.

We may also be able to play Swift against them, somehow...but that would be more from your end of things, I'd assume. At least at this point.

I'm planning to do some digging into Swift to see what I can find out about them. I'd like to hope they're at least not as bad as Orwell, but even if we take Orwell out we'd still need to find a way to safeguard the Mythics, because I'm not sure how much Swift would care about them when all's said and done - not when the show belongs to Orwell.

[The show, and possibly the Mythics as well. Yukino certainly wouldn't be surprised if that was in the fine print somewhere, assuming they bothered with fine print.]

Corporations...I'd almost rather deal with a singular evil individual hellbent on widespread destruction. At least that's more straightforward.
