We seem to be caught in some sort of siege. As we don't know how long we will be here, I would highly recommend taking inventory of what food, water, and other supplies we may have. From there, we may be able to formulate a plan.

Why not? There are certainly several members of our little party who could handle a bit of a tussle if it came to that. An attempt at communication seems a sensible course of action.
