broadcast to investigators;
Seems like the Trumps already want us back to work. [Oh, look, it's that one asshole everyone was probably warned about talking in your head. Congrats, Travelers, he'll make this quick.]
Those of you that are new, this is a Jaunt. We're here to investigate and fix something, so first thing's first- you need to blend in. If the people here get suspicious, we'll get blocked out of opportunities to find something, and sometimes they might even take our presence around here negatively.
[That's Garrett's way of saying "don't be an idiot and play your part or I'm going to call you a moron beyond this Jaunt." There's a sigh, but he continues.]
I'm not one for leading, someone else is going to have to take that job. Might want to sound off, just to see who all we have for this round.
Garrett, Investigator. Your turn.

After all, they're all doing this together, right? ]
If you're not sure yet, maybe we can go look around a little together? It was my first time during the last Jaunt too.

[Well, that cheers Sei up immensely. She beams, enough for the smile to be evident even in her thoughts. "Aggressive cheerfulness," yup...]
That's really kind of you! I'd like that. Is there anywhere in particular we should meet up?
no subject
Did you see the stall that was selling jewelry at the market place? Maybe we should start there, I think we can find out a lot about this world from the kinds of things they sell here.
[ She's not going to make the mistake of not recognizing a hotdog ever again, okay. ]
no subject
...oh! Yeah, I did see that, and that's a great idea! Shopkeepers tend to talk a lot, too, so when we're learning about what they sell we can probably also learn a lot more.
no subject
It'd be a lot easier to do that with two people too, right? We don't know a whole lot about this world yet, unless you're familiar with something similar to it.. so if something comes up during a conversation that we don't know about, we can try to cover for each other.
[ It's what Chizuru messed up last time, so she's putting emphasis on doing it right this time, at least.. ]
no subject
Oh, we should probably work out our own cover stories together before we meet up. That way it doesn't look like we're scrambling to think of things we should already know. You already know my name... what should I call you?
no subject
I'm actually from Japan too, so I guess we have about the same level of familiarity with the things here.. [ Read: hardly anything at all, if anything to begin with.. but they've got to keep thinking positively, can't give up this easily! ] I found a map with Sio-san earlier, and it seems that the places outside of this kingdom are beyond the mountains, so maybe it'd be the easiest to say we're from there if we don't understand something? They might just think we're foreigners who are unfamiliar with certain things. [ There was a huge gap between the westerners and the Japanese people back home as well, after all. ]

[It's possible to hear her smile even in this strange form of thought-speech. Being psychic is weird.]
Oh! Which part? [And her excitement is practically bubbling to the surface even in thought...] I was born in Edo, but I moved to Kyoto when I was young!
[...right, right, they need to focus. No getting carried away!] ...I mean, uh. That's probably a good cover. Even if we don't actually know much about those other places, most people don't know much about lands outside their borders, so they won't know if we get anything wrong.
[Nnnnot necessarily true, but she doesn't really know any better.]
no subject
Also, she totally can't not answer that question, okay, she wouldn't want to be rude! Besides, Sei's answer is fairly close to what her own would be.. They can just get back on track once they start looking around, she figures. ]
I'm from Edo as well. [ Well. Originally, anyway. ] I guess I can't say I moved to Kyoto exactly, but I've been living there for a few years..
[ And ever since then it's been all over the place. ]
Maybe we saw each other on the streets before and never noticed.
[ Although she knows people can come from different times or even different worlds entirely, so it's not very likely.. but it's a nice thought, right? ]

[Sei falls pretty easily into the conversation, mostly because it's easier than trying to work out a cover story without being there in person. ...also because she really likes talking about the Shinsengumi, okay. Even though she hasn't actually called them by name yet.]
I go patrolling with my division frequently, so I'm out quite a bit. And I run errands sometimes, too! We may have seen each other in passing.
Where in Kyoto do you spend most of your time?
no subject
Um..
[ She hesitates on whether she should tell the truth or not, but in the end she figures it's probably better to just confess it. With a group this small, secrets are eventually bound to come out anyway. ]
.. with the Shinsengumi too, actually..
no subject
Her thought-speech is completely panic-stricken.]
I am so sorry, Yukimura-san, I've been very rude...! I... I completely assumed you were a girl...!
[...Sei doesn't recognize her own trick when it's being played by others, apparently. In her defense, her own situation is so ridiculous that she really doesn't believe anyone else would even think to try it.]
I should have been more sensitive... people assume that about me all the time because I'm still short, so I know how annoying it must feel! Aghh, I'm really, really sorry!!
no subject
Well, this is.. a rather odd situation. Chizuru might already realise by now after all this time that her disguise doesn't really hold up when people hear her voice or interact with her - the Shinsengumi noticed it right away, for the most part, and in this place a lot of people seemed to be able to tell her gender fairly instantly too.
But this is the first time where she's been taken for a girl and then the person decided they might be wrong.. for a moment she wonders if she should just let Sei think that and keep up her disguise, but she knows too many people in this place realise the truth anyway, so it can't be too much of a problem to give it away. Besides, she feels like lying to Sei would be a little cruel by now. ]
Ah-- um, no, you were right, I am a girl! [ She sure hopes she isn't making the other feel dumb because of this, though.. ] I've been dressing as a boy so I could stay with them, though, so it's not too strange to think that..
[ There, maybe that soothes the blow a little. ]
So please don't apologize, it's alright.
no subject
[If there was anything at all that Sei was expecting to hear, that most definitely wasn't it. She flounders for a few moments, trying to wrap her mind around it - a girl with the Shinsengumi who dresses as a boy? Another girl with the Shinsengumi who dresses as a boy...?! How long, exactly, could this have been going on, and why the hell did Sei never notice, and--
It doesn't really occur to her that this might be a case of them both thinking of different versions of the Shinsengumi; she hasn't really had it hammered home that the men here aren't the ones she knows just yet.]
That's... are you serious? Does anyone else know...?! How did you keep it secret for so long?!
no subject
[ Except the other part is a little harder to answer. She doesn't mind giving away her secret here since so many people already know, but if this person really is with the Shinsengumi and she doesn't know if it's their Shinsengumi or a different one.. well, she really doesn't want to bring Hijikata or anyone else into a difficult position just because of her. Her stomach turns at the very thought of being a burden on them.
So her next series of thoughts are a bunch of started but unfinished ones, along with a lot of 'um's, but then.. ]
.. Maybe it's easier to talk about it in person.
