Those of you that are new, this is a Jaunt. We're here to investigate and fix something, so first thing's first- you need to blend in. If the people here get suspicious, we'll get blocked out of opportunities to find something, and sometimes they might even take our presence around here negatively.

[That's Garrett's way of saying "don't be an idiot and play your part or I'm going to call you a moron beyond this Jaunt." There's a sigh, but he continues.]

I'm not one for leading, someone else is going to have to take that job. Might want to sound off, just to see who all we have for this round.

If anyone gets to cold, I can open us a portal back to Liminal Space. Assuming I can find anyone. I don't see any familiar faces from here.

I'm standing beside a stable right now. A new one, I think. I can still smell the paint. The gentlemen in front look like soldiers, but they're relaxed. Not ready for a battle. There's a camp nearby - tents, other wooden buildings. I'll head that way in a minute.

No familiar faces yet. Usually we're thrown right into the fray. Little odd for the Trumps to change it.

Most people here seem relaxed, so that's a good sign compared to the last Jaunt. If you see anyone, let us know.

Seems pretty busy around here. People might have too much to think about to notice us unless someone does something monumentally stupid.

[Though there is definitely an undertone of so don't do anything monumentally stupid, dammit to that thought.]

I'd say it was a ball, but it's outdoors and looks like everyone's here. It's not limited to certain people.

[For the world that he's from, this seems familiar, if only slightly. And he sounds amused with Hijikata's unspoken addition.]

Well, she sure as hell recognizes the no-nonsense undertone, but... is it just her or is his voice a little different? Only one way to find out. First things first: Establish that this is a different Hijikata than the one she's spoken to already.]

I'll just put it out in the open that I'm not entirely sure what is expected from us; no matter how enlightening you think you were, Garrett. Exactly how will we know what we're looking for? Will there be clues somewhere, or is it all about intuition?

Most of the time it's something that involves the other Travelers with us. Remember the people you saw in the place before- the exhibit? Some of us here are like this, Investigators. We remember everything about ourselves. The others are brainwashed into thinking they've lived in this world their entire lives. They'll hold the clues we need.

[Last time he blended into the world, with no idea of his normal self. He wished he had that right now, because he feels really out of place in his suit.]

[Though she's not sure how often baths happen here... would they all blend in better if they smelled bad? She's pretty used to men smelling bad.]

Good. Previous Jaunts can be either slow or fast, depending on how quick we find what the problem is. Or isn't.

I'm afraid none of this looks familiar to me. [But nothing that wasn't a high-tech bubble city was, so he wasn't particularly surprised by that]

I'm going to do some looking around. Maybe I can find out what everyone's gathering for.

It's not that familiar to me, either.

Sansa says it's a tournament. Like a challenge set up for people to show their skills and win favor with those in the high society. I'm going to move around the crowds, see what they're up to.

I haven't seen a lot of faces I recognize yet- I'll be in the crowds trying to see what I can find.

[There's an undercurrent of worry to the thought, but he's keeping it well contained for now.]

Ahh... maybe it would be a good idea for some of us to enter some of the contests? If we win, we might be able to earn some money, blend in, and earn the interest of the infiltrators.

I'm not sure how many will notice, I haven't seen many people I recognize as of yet.

Bruce Banner. [If he's answering this then he has to be an investigator, right, so he doesn't clarify that. He's a bit discomfitted to be having a mental conversation, but it has a completely different flavor than his discussions with the Hulk, so Bruce can tell that it's not intrusive. Instead it's oddly familiar, from all his time in solitary spent talking to himself. After a while, it'd been hard to tell which words were said out loud and which were internal.

He reorients his focus.] I'm not sure how much use I'll be. I was planning on trying to build something for data gathering while on the next Jaunt-- I'm a scientist, figured studying the dimensional rifts was an obvious tack-- but obviously this... [He sighs.] This won't work.

[Not with medieval level technology. He's disgruntled. Apparently he should've gone out and picked up stuff from Prohibition era Brooklyn while he'd had a chance from liminal space.]

You'd be surprised at what can happen. [He sounds amused at the whole idea.] We've had a couple scientists in the past, and they've found some pretty interesting things in the Jaunt.

Also, if you're going to build something in the downtime- keep it with you. Liminal Space doesn't exactly return what you leave behind.

[A lesson he learned the hard way after his first Jaunt.]

[Joscelin is usually among the first to report - now, his reply comes nearly half an hour late, sounding choked and sick.]

[Now that is a different response than what he was expecting. There's a twinge of concern, perhaps, but it's gone soon enough, Garrett wanting answers.]

[Oh god she's so nervous but they're going to have to do this. Breathe, Sei, this is just like the special mission you just got back from... just with less of a chance of her real gender being found out. She hopes.]

This is my first Jaunt, but I'll... I'll do my best! We'll figure out whatever's going on here...

Just make sure you fit in. [A pause.] We've had things happen in the past and the natives got too suspicious.

[Not to mention they dragged a lot of attention to themselves during the last jaunt.]

[ This is insane and acknowledging the voices in his head seems like a classic psychological blunder, but ignoring all of it isn't making it go away. So finally, reluctantly, Tony speaks - thinks - up. ]

[ He sounds wary, a little grudging. ]

What are we supposed to fix?

We don't know. [It sounds almost amused. Almost.]

That's part of the reason we're here- the Trumps want us to figure out the problem first, then solve it.

"Fix something". How delightfully cryptic. Are our benfactors always so informative?

[It's less irritated than the words alone might sound. The lack of clear direction is inconvenient, the lack of choice infuriating, but the crowd and the spectacle just scream opportunity.]

[It's belated, and not as deliberate as she'd wish. In person, she'd give a false name, but her own identity rings true in the unnerving, unwanted intimacy brought about by voices intruding on her thoughts.]

The Trumps pretty much consider this a blessing.

[His way of saying "yes, this is the most we'll get." And he understands that finding this place ripe for opportunity.]

Once we figure out what seems to be the issue, we can push forward that way.

Oh, did you see them being sold somewhere around here? I think having one would be really useful. [ Considering that she still doesn't know where Kansas was even supposed to be in that last world even now the Jaunt is already over. Better not make that same mistake this time. ]

He is not a good liar, but nobody seems particularly suspicious if he asks about interesting stories and perhaps a little gossip. A minstrel, after all, must keep up-to-date on the people's predilections, and everybody has a good tale to share.]

[JUST TAKING ADVANTAGE and chiming in for Kuzuryu because he can. Because Kuzuryuu has the dubious honour of being saddled with this guy.]

I ain't exactly sure about blending in, but looks like some people around here might need their armour and stuff fixed up after their competitions. Don't look that hard.

But 'sides that, does anyone know anythin' about... well... anythin' so far?

We're still blind for now, but this land is called Dolorosa. Other than that this festival is a tournament, I'm not sure what else to look for as of yet.

[He's out of his element, though there are some similarities and he has a vague feeling of this being familiar, in a sense. It's weird.]
