[Is it possibly for a mental voice to sound giddy? Because there's a distinct giddy tinge to By's thoughts, for all that his words come out with his normal, lazy, lightly Russian-accented drawl.]

Byerly Vorrutyer here. We're on Earth, pre-spaceflight, although someone who isn't me will need to get a better read on the actual date and location. Linguistically, it's a hodgepodge. I can hear archaic Russian, a whole host of Asiatic and Romance languages, and something else I can't quite place.

If you can "hear" this, check in. We need to know who we've got to work with.

"Who we've got to work with" sort of implies that everyone has the same goals, doesn't it?

"Complete the Trumps' goal for the Jaunt" does seem to be one that most people assume everyone's working on, though.

Or am I wrong?

Naoki Konishi checking in. Let's see if I can avoid a side career in bomb disposal this time.

Hmm.

Like I said - that kind of implies everyone has the same goal.

Malik here, for once.

[Yeah, he's... used to being not-himself.]

Arabic is used mostly, and it is... 1896 by the christian calendar. Which you lot seem to use more. If anyone needs help with... cultural differences dealing with the Caliphate I am familiar with their beliefs and values, if a bit old fashioned.

I will have more information about the political climate and who's who in a day or so at most.

Oh, the first one needed disarming, we would've failed the Grid worse than we failed Purgatory otherwise, I'm willing to bet. I just don't want it to be necessary.

In any case, this is no Earth history I'm familiar with, which is going to make things... interesting. I'm keeping my ears open while I look around this market, to see if I can't find out anything more useful, but there's so much going on and a lot of it in languages I don't know that I don't think I'll get a whole lot.

Also still looking out for my friends, but so far I haven't seen any of them. [...Unless that showoff princess was supposed to be Naoto.

oh boy.]

A codename?

[ she sounds more amused than threatened by that ]

Ooo, I can't imagine how horrible that would be for me. Wow. I doubt I could handle the shame.

It's cute you think I'll at all answer to that if you try to get ahold of me.

Have fun jumping for the Trumps! Don't forget to ask "how high".

I also caught some speaking a bit of Latin, as well as Hebrew and Greek but those are all I can help with.

[Because four languages of differing roots isn't terribly impressive at all.]

I have a feeling it is a good thing I am myself this time.

Helena Wells checking in, darling.

It seems to be approximately my original era, with some very different political and social climate.

If I can get to a bookstore, I might be able to be more precise.

I hear you?

[If Istas sounds like anything, she sounds faintly puzzled. She'd ignored the odd mental voices she'd heard before, but now there was a voice she knew appearing in her head]

Just Helena is fine, truly.

If I do not miss my guess, I believe some of the architecture to be Venetian in origin. Glancing to the earth below, the canals seem vaguely familiar as the aforementioned city.

The largest difference seems to be the Eastern influence in the languages and the city. The European countries and cultures seem to have very little to no hold. I have heard many languages I am aware of, but precious little English, other than how I hear the common language of this place, whatever it is. If I do not miss my guess, the Eastern powers, Indian and... Arabian perhaps, seem to be the dominant ones.

It is somewhat more modern than mine but considering I am from about... 700 years in the past, that is understandable I think.
