Sooooo I don't know who's been talking to Kyan at all, but he's been trying to figure out what's going on with the Tachyon storm. Apparently, he's thinking now maybe we shouldn't try to outrun it. He's not scared of it anymore, apparently, and since the data in it is so organized he's wondering if it's carrying information about something...?

I don't really know what that could mean, but considering we're trying to outrun the thing (and sort of failing at the moment), I feel like this is probably important.

Do we have anyone trained in tachyon physics? I can do chemistry, I can talk neutrinos and quantum mechanics if I have to, but I don't know anything for sure here except that this sounds like a really, really bad idea.

Is there a specific reason why he is not afraid of the storm? I am reluctant to give up on outrunning it without a solid reason.

[Not that it really matters to him, since he can just run away to Liminal Space, but its the principle of the thing.]

Even if it's somehow carrying information, isn't it still some kind of storm? That doesn't sound like something we'd want to get caught in. Not with so many other people on the ship. My friend Jean told me we come back, but almost everyone here are civilians. We can't just risk their lives like that!

I'm definitely not, and I'm not sure anyone has brought up anything about it.

Then we should talk him out of it. Or get him to try it in an Outrider, with a few Investigators, and everyone else long gone in hyperspace.

I'm not sure, I was talking to Nikias and not Kyan himself. Someone could try asking him about it? What Nikias said was that the amount and order of the information in the storm couldn't have been from a single explosion, and would have had to be organized that way with a purpose. ...I think.

[he has perfect memory, but he's not totally sure he got the gist of what was being said in the first place.]

I have no idea. [look he's just passing along what he heard.]

I don't think he's going to. Nikias said Kyan would dive right back into it if there weren't so many people on board, but I don't think it's actually going to happen. [he hopes it doesn't actually happen, not without a bit more proof.]

Good. That's way too much risk.

On the other hand, if a couple of us wanted to steal an Outrider and wait for it...

Are there any investigators that got their hands on an outrider? [he would feel better using one of theirs than stealing from people who would still be here later.]

Considering even the vanguard of the storm has been shaking the Empress apart, could we even survive this? If the tachyons interact with the sails, it might be easier to sail with the wind, but hard to steer. And the stress on the sails would be enormous.

... Assuming this is like flying in a windstorm, and not like something entirely different.

If we sent the outriders as scouts, they can't fly fast enough to be useful. And the Corona is uninhabitable.

[She's thinking about it.]

I'll go talk to Kyan myself. And someone should find an engineer and get them to tell us if we can even last until the storm.

[Phillip is just going to pretend she's thinking out loud, because he is so far out of his depth in anything ship and/or science related this Jaunt it's not even funny.]

Zoe was planning on trying to get one working, but I don't know if she actually managed.

And if not... there might be some that got left behind when everyone evacuated the Corona. Assuming we could get to them without, you know, dying.

He'd better have a very good reason as to why he thinks we should all go along with letting the storm hit us. Hunches don't count.

I'm not really in the mood to be a guinea pig for someone's curiosity today.

What's the exact thing trying to kill us on the Corona? [because some people might be immune. if all else fails, Phillip wouldn't have much issue with going.]

Radiation poisoning? Maybe. I'm not actually sure if anything ever melted down to the point that it would still be dangerous there, but if it is... that's not something anyone wants to mess around with.

Let me know what they say. [Jade is totally bullshitting -- she just knows how flying and sailing works when there's wind, and is hoping enough transfers to tachyons to not make her look foolish or get people killed.]

Hmm... so he believes that the information inside the storm implies a guiding intelligence? And yet, who is to say that such a thing, if it exists, would be benevolently inclined to us in any way?

I'm not sure anyone voted, more than he doesn't want to take chances with so many lives that aren't his. [that's... elaborating on the information he got, but he trusts kanji, so.]
